Maud Tabor, former school teacher whoso body was round concealed in a trunk ten days ago, came to her death as the result of hemorrhage during child birth, in the opinion of Dr. A. S. Warthin, University, of Michigan pathologist, who today submitted a "report of his laboratory analysis of the woman's vital organs. The expert's testimony was ac cepted by officials as disposing of the murder theory, but when asked if other charges might be lodged against the woman's mother,. Mrs. Sarah Ta bor, and her brother, Walter Tabor, whose extradition is being sought from California, or others connected with the case, they refused to divulge any further plans they might have. Dr. Warthin stated that apparently Miss Tabor, who was 46 years old, had been attended by a person with some technical skill, that the body had partially been embalmed and that there were no signs of disease that might have caused death. J. C. Virgo, a former undertaker of South Bend, Ind., recalled to the stand, changed his previous testi mony and admitted that, he was mar ried to Miss Tabor at Lagrange, Ind. in 1915. He also told of his fiv other marriages. MAYNARD STORY DENIED MATHER FIELD COMMANDANT DEFENDS AVIATORS. Flying Parson Cited to Appear Monday to Explain Statement Relative to Use of Liquor. WASHINGTON. Dec. 10. Lieuten ant Belvin W. Maynard was ordered today to report Monday to Major General Menoher, director of mili tary aeronautics, to explain the statement attributed to him by the anti-saloon league of America, with reference to the use of' alcoholic liquor by army air service pilots. SACRAMENTO. Cal.. Dec. 10. Statements attributed to Lieutenant Belvin W. 'Maynard, transcontinental aviator, that fatal accidents in the army air race were due in some in stances to use of alcohol was de clared untrue by Major W. A. Rob ertson, commandant of Mather field, home station of three aviators who were killed. "Lieutenant Maynard's statement is absolutely untrue, positively ridic ulous, unwarranted and exceedingly unsportsmanlike," Major . Robertson said. Captain T. S. Voss, adjutant at Mather field, declared the men from Mather who met death were known not to be users of intoxicants, and Captain Lowel Smith, who bettered Maynard's elapsed time in the race, also denied seeing anything to war rant Maynard's statement. Mrs. Tabor and her son Walter were traced to the Pacific coast, to Freewater, Or., thenco to Yreka, Cal., where they were arrested and are now awaiting the arrival of officials of Van Buren county, Michigan, with requisitions for their return. Joseph Virgo, an undertaker of South Bend, has also been arrested. It Is believed he knew of Miss Tabor's condition prior to her death and also of the disposal of her body. . JONAH STORY ATTACKED BIBLICAL ACCOUNT BRANDED MYTHICAL COMEDY. Dr. Richard Green Moulton Says Narrative Devoid of Truth. King James Version Hit. CCopyriRht by the New Tork World. Pub lished by Arrangement.) LONDON. Dec. 10. tSpecial Cable.) The Biblical story of Jonah and the whale is a mythical comedy, accord ing to Dr. Richard Green Moulton, chief of the department of literature in the University of Chicago. Profes sor Moulton, an Englishman by birth, yesterday addressed a gathering of "Wesleyans at Bath, where he was ed ucated as a boy. "The story of Jonah and the whale, upon which so many sermons have been based, is utterly devoid of truth," Dr. Moulton said. "It was a com mentator who introduced the narra tive of the whale into the book of Jonah. He wrote it in his manuscript by way of a book note and as commentary. "The King James version is not the true Bible. It lacks entirely the dis tinction of literary form. The King James translators saw the Bible as a eerles of texts. They gave us a chap let of beads, but a chaplet with the string broken. It gives a string of broken miscellaneous topics of oratory." PCLICEMENUSE CELLS City Jail Utilized as Hotel for Stranded Officers. Policemen who were unable to re turn to their homes in the outlying districts last night tried out the sleeping facilities of the city jail. It was a case of the lion and the lamb, rather the patrolman and the crook lying down together. About GO officers who were strand ed for the. night were accommodated at the station. Some slept in the emergency hospital, others in the club rooms and others in the jail, itsef. Police Captain Inskeep staked out his claim on the top of a table in an office adjoining police desk and con sidered himself fortunate. The automobile patrol wagons were superseded yesterday by a bob-sled and a sleigh, both horse drawn, and the garage at the station was con verted into a stable. One of these vehicles was used for hauling Oie mayor and commissioners home last night from the city hall. CLACKAMAS POLITICS BOIL ELECTION MAY BE CALLED TO FILL SENATORIAL VACANCY. Governor Olcott's action in an nouncing a special session of the Ore gon legislature may precipitate a spe cial election in Clackamas county for the purpose of filling the vacancy caused by the death of State Senator Walter A. Dimick. Under ordinary conditions the place would have re mained open, as the vacancy would have been filled at frhe general elec tion in November of next year in time for the newly elected senator to take his seat in the legislature at the regu lar session in January, 1921. The constitution provides that in the event of a vacancy in the legis lature the gowrnop shall issue a writ to the district affected for a special election to fill such vacancy. The governor said today oyer long distance telephone that his attention had just been called to the matter and that he had given it no thought and would later determine what course to pursue. Should he call the special session upon ten day's notice. as was done by Governor Chamber lain, there would be no time to issue call for a special election. If the vacancy i not filled by a special election, however, Clackamas county will be without representation in the state senate at the coming spe cial session, except such representa tion as is afforded by the senator who represents Clackamas and Mult nomah jointly and who is a resident of Portland. Representative Schuebel, in the event of a special election,- will prob ably resign from the house and be a candidate for the senate and Grant B. Dimick, a cousin of the lat,e sena tor, ia also expected to be a candidate. In the event of a special election. th vacancy in the house due to Mr. Schuebel's resignation would also have to be filled. All Speakers Denounce Tri-Partite I Organization Plan to Take Possession of Party. YAKIMA. Wash., Dec. 10. (Special.) ut of the conference of republican workers of Yakima, Benton, Franklin and Kittitas counties, just concluded here, has come a demand for con certed action in the state of Wash ington to rid the government of ev ery destructive element that is con tributing to conditions of unrest prev alent throughout the nation. The conference was in the nature of a challenge to radicalism backed by a united party determined to turn back the government to the patriotic and constructive guidance of republi can statesmen. The Yakima conference was strong in performance. Chairman A. B. Stewart of the republican state fi nance committee made, a frank state ment on the necessity of co-operating with the republican . national committee in combating the huge democratic fund of J5. 000. 000 and forthwith the meeting subscribed ap proximately $5000 for state and na tional campaign purposes, pledging an additional sum later. The Wapato delegation sent up a check for $500, and Franklin and Benton counties gave assurances that they would sub scribe whatever amount is allotted by the state committee. The west is to be the political bat tleground next year. It is no longer mere fighting ground, and the repub lican state committeemen who were present at the Yakima conference hammered hard on thia point. The importance of republican suc cess to the future welfare of the na tion was emphasized by all speakers, and found instant response from the large audience of men ard women present. The Yakima conference savored of the old-fashioned political -ally. The parade of guhernatorla' aspirants was not the least interest ing feature of the programme, and 'hree candidates took advantage of the opportunity to speak tiieii littlti pieces, and they 'did it well. . Governor Hart's letter announcing . is candida&y for re-electio i was hardly in the nature of a surppise to the candidates who were on the ground. Criticism by Hervey Lindley of Seattle of Governor Hart's policy in handling the coal strike was the dra matic feature of the meeting and fur nished the real thrill. Senator E. T. Coman of Spokane and Senator George B. Lamping of Seattle, introduced as candidates, made no specific announcement of their intentions, but left the thought that they expected to file. Colonel Rolan H. Hartley of Everett spoke as an active candidate for the republi can nomination. The principal speech of the eve ning was made by Carl E. Croson of Seattle, who exposed the plot whereby the leaders of the triple alliance hope to move in and take possession of the republican party next year. The meeting frequently expressed Its op position to the alliance, and all of the speakers denounced the motives back of the tri-partite organization. 6 NATIONS TALK OF PACT Military and Political Alliance Fa vored at Conference.
