Consideration of Xation-Wide Cam paign Scheduled for Wednesday; Bishop Sumner to Speak. Decision to call a conference of all clergy and parish chairmen in the nation-wide campaign of the Episco pal church was made yesterday by the diocesan committee of the Ore gon dioceao- .meeting in a session spe cially called By the Right Reverend "Walter T. Sumner, bishop of Ore gon. The conference was called for next "Wednesday. It will last all day and will culminate at a public mass meeting- at the Pro-Cathedral of St. Stephen the Martyr that nigrht, when there will be present the massed choirs of all the churches in the city. Arrangements are being made for three stirring addresses in which the nation-wide effort of the church and its every-member canvass will be pre sented. The day conference sessions will be held at the Portland hotel and will include a morning joint session for both clergy and lay leaders, at which a number of addresses directly bear ing on the campaign will be delivered. Iuring the afternoon there will be a resumption of the conference, with a final session for all the clergy of the diocese to be addressed by Bishop Sumner only. The diocesan committee at its meeting reviewed the progress of the campaign to date and expressed a general approval of the work that had been carried on. Bishop Sumner presided and told of the effect on the general conference at Detroit of the nation-wide campaign. LOS ANGELES MAN TAKEN EREST STOCKDAIiE ADMITS OFPEXSE IN SOUTH. Charge of Forgery Is Made Here, and California Officers Want II i in on Similar Count. "When Ernest Stockdale was taken to the police station by Inspector Horack yesterday on a charge of forgery he encountered Inspector Pat Moloney, said to be the best man in the department for identifying men from descriptions and photos. Moloney regarded Stockdale a mo ment. "You are Stockstill," declared the inspector, "wanted in Los Angeles for forgery." Stockstill, according to inspectors, wilted" and admitted the charge. Stockdale is said to have attempted to purchase an automobile from G. N. Smith, Third and Glisan streets, with a check for $400 on a Los Angeles bank. Mr. Smith communicated with the Los Angeles bank and discovered that the check was no good, he says. Stockdale is eaid to have purchased an automobile in a similar manner from a Los Angeles man, giving the name of Stockstill. The inspectors found on hia person a number of checks, some of them made out. Stockdale said he was a chauffeur and 28 years of age. He declared he was operating and would continue to operate as the re sult of a too severe sentence he had received in the Arizona state peni tentiary a number of years ago. ac cording to inspectors. He said he was given a five-year sentence for a minor offense and at that time resolved that he would continue to operate out of revenge. BEGGAR MUST GO TO JAIL Policeman Gives 25 Cents and Makes Arrest on Vagrancy Charge Vernon Brandwick, 19-year-old beg gar, who begged 25 cents from In spector Morack Wednesday night to buy something to eat, received a ten day sentence in municipal court yes terday. After Morack had given the quarter he arrested Brandwick on a vagrancy charge. At the police station the inspector discovered that the boy had a quan tity of imitation diamonds which he had apparently Intended to sell. A bill with the diamonds showed that he had purchased them for $1.75 a dozen. BOND HEARING SOON DUE Supreme Court Advances Multno mah Case to November 21. SALEM, Or.. Nov. 6. (Special.) The case brought by C. A. Pullen et aL against school district No. 3 of Multnomah county to concel J20,000 worth of bonds issued by the district and sold to Koeler Bros., and to re strain the district officials from levy ing an assessment to meet the obli gations resulting from the sale of the bonds, has been advanced on the su preme court calendar, and will be beard November 21. The action was originally tried in the circuit court 6f Multnomah county, where it was held that the bond proceedings were regular. It was charged by the plaintiffs that the defendants conspired to issue the bonds by falsely reciting in the records made by the school election board and school district that the bonds had been authorized by a ma jority of the voters. ARMY CAMP BIDS FILED Proposals Are Submitted fob- gov ernment Properties. WASHINGTON, Nov. 6. The high est bid received by the war depart ment for the purchase of the canton ments in Chattanooga and Chicka mauga national parks was that of R. A. Goldman of Chicago, who offered $176,000 for all the properties con structed by the government. The Buffalo Wrecking & Salvage company. Buffalo, offered $231,000 for all the improvements at Camp Mills, Mineola. For the improvements at Camp Shelby, Hattiesburg, Miss., Harris Bros, of New Tork bid $155,000. In the case of each camp there were numerous smaller bids and alterna tive bids for various parcels. Supreme Court Sets Cases. SALEM, Or., Nov. 5. (Special.) The appealed cases of Dolph vs. Speckhart, from Multnomah county, and Comely vs. Campbell, from Mar ion county, will be heard by . the su preme court on November 12, accord ing to an order made today. The cases of Herrick vs." Earzee. from Multnomah county, and Crew vs. Abraham, from Douglas county, have been scheduled for hearing on No vember 13.
