EXPOSITION OPENS MONDAY With Good Streetcar Service, All In dications Point to Exhibition Being Stost Successful As sistant Manager Tlere, Stockmen and livestock from all parts of the territory west of the Rocky Mountains are gathering In Portland today for the opening of the Pacific International Livestock Exposition at the Union Stock Yards next Monday. Train loads of prise stock have been arriving at the show grounds for the last few days. Fifteen carloads, of the best stock displayed at the I-ewlston show earlier in the week now are on the way to Portland and will arrive here today. Pome of the fine Guernsey cattle of the University of California arrived yesterday. John L. Smith, of Spokane, assistant manager of the show, and one of the best-known and most successful live stock men of the Northwest, has arrived in Portland. He looked over the stock already on the grounds and was satis fied. "The fat stock show will be the big gest and best ever held on the Pacific Coast," he declared. "It will beat both the Lewis and Clark Fair and the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Ex- position Seattle fairs." Mr. Smith has the reputation among stockmen of being a conservative man of good judgment. It Is probable that he will be engaged to assist In Judging hogs next week. A. A. ("Jack") "Splawn. president of the Washington Slate Fair, and Mayor of North Yakima, Is expected to arrive today. No stock show In .the Northwest would be complete without him. He Is a successful stock breeder himself. Good streetcar service Is promised between Portland and the show grounds.
