ROSS IS PAROLED Circuit Judge Finds No Pro tests in Banker's Case. CASE IS MOST UNUSUAL tonvlcted Man Ordered to Report-to Judge Kelly at Beginning of Kaeh Term of Court Sen tence Is live Years. SALEM, Or.. June 30. (Special.) J. Thorburn Ross, ex-president ot the ' ' Title Guarantee & Trust Company, of Portland, was paroled by Circuit Judge Kelly today. Ross was convicted and. sentenced to ' serve five years in the penitentiary for a conversion of $300,000 of the state school fund to paying depositors of the institution. "This is about the only case of its kind I have ever known which was not opposed by someone." said Judge Kelly, after parolinir Ross. "Uusually there are at least several protests." Ross tvas instructed to report, through his attorney Wallace McCam mant. to Judge Kelly at the beginning of each term of court. The Supreme Court of the United ' States recently refused to consider an appeal of the defendant on the ground that it had no jurisdiction. The money was borrowed by Ross to use in connection with a run on the Title Guarantee & Trust Company, . which was expected. However, it did ' not save the Institution. Soon after the failure the money borrowed from the school book fund was returned. PERSONAL MENTION. C. E. Gores, of Hood River, is at the v Perkins. Miss A. jr.
