At the last meeting: of the director! of the Rose City Park Club the matter of enlarging the clubhouse at East Fifty-sixth street and Sandy boulevard was considered, and a spe cial committee with K. H. Rhoads as chairman was appointed to look into the matter. It has been found that the Auditorium on the second floor Is too small for dancing and is often over crowded. Also It Is desired to have a btllard-room and bowling alleys. When the clubhouse was planned It was thought It would answer for several years, but already there Is demand for more room. The club has 178 mem bers, and the Income from all sources In January was S401. according to the report of Secretary O. G. Hughson. The clubhouse is In constant use and It Is expected the south unit of the build ing will be erected. The matter of con structing; a basement will be consid ered also. Niw Corporations Fobsted. The Woodstock Mutuallst Association will hold mass meetings next Tuesday night In the Kenllworth Presbyterian Church, and the following Tuesday, February 18. in Smith's Hall. East Forty-second street and Gladstone ave nue. The latter will be a general meet ing for all Improvement organizations of the district. Including the Mothers' Club, to further the co-operative move ment. The association has formed a temporary organization and filed articles of Incorporation. There are about 40 members so far, and It Is intended to increase the membership to 100 at the two meetings. Vicb Suspect Dbhted Chakgb of Vendb. E. S. J. McAllister, whose trial on a charge of degeneracy is scheduled to commence February IS. In Circuit Court, was denied a change of venue by Judge. McGinn yesterday morning. Holmes & Corby, of Salem, attorneys for McAllister, contended that senti ment In favor of conviction of the members of the alleged vice clique is so strong in Multnomah County as to preclude the possibility of a fair trial. The District Attorney's office has elected to try McAllister on an Indict ment In which Roy Kadel is named. McAllister has pleaded not guilty. Rabbi Wish Will Speak. Rabbi Jonah B. Wise will speak on the con vention of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations at Beth Israel tonight at 8 o'clock. Rabbi Wise has Just returned from delivering the prin cipal address at the dedication of the Hebrew Union College buildings, in Cincinnati, which event was a feature of the convention. Bible class will be held Wednesday at 8 P. M. All men and women are welcome. The music tonight will be in charge of Mrs. Rose Bloch Bauer. Sbwkr to Bb Cc-NBiDrmsD. The Ross mere sewer district will be considered this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the City Hall by the street committee. The committee of the Rossmere-Hancock Improvement Club asks that all prop erty owners In this district who can do so attend the meeting and support the request for a certain class of pavement, which was approved at a recent mass meeting in the Rossmere district. Poultry Lectures to Bb Grvsx. Professor Dryden, of Oregon Agricul tural College, will lecture on poultry raising at the East Portland Branch Library, East Eleventh and East Alder streets, today at 3 Pj M., and at the Alblna Branch Library. 860 Knott street, tonight at 8 o'clock. Bridegroom Deserting KWerly Wife Here Located at Lob Angeles and Gives Tp Money. Mollified by the restitution of a considerable part of 19000. which was taken from her by her new-found hus band. Mrs. Robert Marsh has dropped criminal charges, according to advices received yesterday from Los Angeles by Detective Captain Baty. The exact amount of the settlement was not mentioned. The case of the elderly Mrs. Marsh and her young husband created a stir some months ago when he abandoned her here, taking the mo-ey and Jewels valued at 3500. The pair, newly mar ried In San Francisco, after a brief acquaintance, were on their way nortn, ostensibly to take a steamer for Aus tralia, where Marsh, financed by nls elderly bride. Intended to enter the automobile business. In his haste to embark In trade he departed without her and did not leave his address. Considerably older than her hus band, who. she told the police, was "very attractive." Mrs. Marsh reportea her loss to Detectives Price and Royla, through whose inquiries Marsh was traced to Los Angeles, some months later. Then, when It was attempted to prepare extradition papers, it was found that Mrs. Marsh also was in the Southern city, unaware of the presence of her husband. Without her it was Impossible to settle the case here and It was left in the hands of the Lo Angeles police. Marsh was held there "on general principles," and now, it la learned, has obtained his liberty by returning to his bride as much of her money as remained in his mands. CASE "FIXEjrjS CHARGE Warrant Issued for Absent Prose curing Witness In Assault Case. Charging that an uttempt had teen made to "fix" a case which he was prosecuting. Deputy District Attorney Deich demanded in Municipal Court yesterday that a bench warrant be Is sued for the complaining witness who had failed to appear, and a subpena for Joe Morak, a well-known character about town, who, he said, had made advances to have the case settled. Both requests were granted by the court and the wanted men will appear today. Deich also reflected upon the defend ant's attorney, who, he said, had made similar requests. The case at issue Is that wherein John Luciano is accused of assaulting Andrea Pellechla. After bringing the charge and causing numerous persons to leave their work to appear as wit nesses, the officers say, Pellechia ap pears to have dropped the prosecution, but will be compelled to appear.
