The Junior Leaders will appear In an arrobatle ex hibition. IIioh Sohool Location la Issi'R. The location of the Mllwaukle High richool will be settled next Monday by the votes of the taxpayers of that district. It will be erected either on the present school grounds. In connec tion with the grammar achool on Main and Harrison streets, or a new site will be selected in Mlnthorn. in the eastern part of the district. If a new location Is selected In Mlnthorn It will mean the purchase of about one acre of land for a site with the. additional expense of the purchase price, but the residents In that part of the district want the building located and erected In Mlnthorn. where thore Is a consider able settlement. They are working; hard to secure the new building. The new building wherever located will be a central high school, to which the sur rounding districts have agreed to aend their high school students. Cost of the new building will be about $10,000. Brookutx Library Opens. The Brooklyn Branch Library was opened Wednesday In the two-story building owned by Mrs. William Raabe. at the southeast corner of Milwauklo and Powell streets, under tba direction of the Portland Library Association. Miss R. McMannus Is the librarian In Im mediate charge. All the lower por tion of the building la used by the branch for the storasje of book and for a reading-room. At the opening more than 200 children and adults were pres ent In the afternoon, and In the even ing the rooms were tilled to the closing hour. The teachers of the Brooklyn achool and citlxens are greatly ptoased with the opening of the library. It Is centrally located, near the park and playgrounds. It was opened on the request of the Brooklyn Improvement Jlub. It la expected to secure a lot and have a permanent building; erected ome time In th future. Turns PtsTnicra Fprmkd. These re the estimates of the City Kn :lneer. but the bids of the several tavlng concerns will cut down the cost :o some extent. The bids of the Inde pendent raving Company for the three districts are as follows: East Nine teenth. $4S.5: East Seventeenth. $51. !: Kast Twenty-first. HT.flu. The total of these bid Is 111. 000 lees than the estimate of the City Knglneer. At present sewera are being laid In West moreland, but probably will be finished next month. After the sewers are com pleted, it is expected that the atreets will be paved. Sellwood TO Havk Mors Watbr. A committee from the Sell wood Board of Trad haa been assured that tba people of that suburb will have plenty ef water by July 1. at which time the reinforcing water main will be com -pitted there. It will be laid on East Twenty-third street and the failure to open KaM Seventeenth street through Midway will not delay the laying of the main. It will be laid through Westmoreland to Sri I wood and there be connected with the present water system and a circuit formed. The main will connect with the Division street mala through the main which was laid on Kast Twenty-sixth street last year. It will be laid south from Holgate street. Cakal Wiu Aid Is Btutr. A let ter recently waa received from Isaac Manning. United Statea Consul at Bar ranqullla. Colombia, by C C. Chapman ef the Commercial Club. Mr. Manning formerly lived In Portland and waa city editor of the Salem Statesman at one lima. Mr. Manning believes that the Panama Canal will assist the Wil lamette Valley farmers to get rid of their products In the East. He says that there are very few Oregon pro ducts In Colombia. The Kast Side Business Men's Club has decided to have the usual human rose bud. or children's parade during the Rose Festival thla year, and also will give a carnival one night. Details of the parade and carnival are now being" taken up. The carnival was sug gested to the club by Manager Hutchln. who said that Orand avenue, being a wide street, can be used to good ad vantage. The club directors are now discussing ways and means to finance the parade and carnival, and plana will be adopted thla month. 'Hospital Bids ' Rejbcted. Because 11 of the five bids received for the construction of a hospital for con tagious diseases at the Multnomah County poor farm ware considered too high, the County Commissioners re jected the bids yesterdsy and will re advertlse. The plans and specifications for the building call for a plain neml flreproof structure with six room and without ornamentation. Architect Bridge estimated that the cost would be 200. The lowest bid for the work waa tlSOO, with an additional 11000 for Installing the heating ayatejn. Rabbi Wis to Speak Tonioht. "Reform Judaism. Called American. It has been the usual statement, when a Chinaman Is arrested for having opium in hi possession, that the drug was only medicine and used to heal cuts or bruises. When Wong Hung waa ar rested a few days ago on this charge hla attorney Insisted that the alleged opium be scientifically analysed. The result of this examination proved that In the preparation there was only a trace of opium, so It was necessary to discharge Wong Hunjr. Mant to Join War Vetkrasb. Many applications for membership have been made of late to the Spanish American War Veterans. It Is prob able more than 100 will attend the meeting tonight, when plans will be laid for a big banquet to be held Monday night. March 25. In honor of the 12th anniversary of the battle near Manila. On trial In the I'nlted States District Court, before Jury, Is the suit of William Ploemarher against the Shaw Batcher Company, to recover 116.000 damagea for personal Injuries sustained while In the employ of the defendant digging a ditch for a pipeline. Roy Million, a special delivery car rier of the postofflce department, was struck and slightly injured by an au tomobile driven by Carl H.
