But for the intervention of Taconia busi ness men. the local baseball franchise wouUl have been turned over to Walla Walla this week. Today a number of the leading business men took over enough stork in the newly organized club to insure its retention in Tacoma. A. K. Kothermel, the new president of the club, went into the game ofpro verblal shoe string1 and found hard sledding when the players began to ask for their transportation. Walla Walla lias wanted the club pretty bad and Rothermel was about to come to terms with the Kastern Washington city when public sentiment intervened. Warren E. Burgess, a well known business man. has been named as a represetative of the business men on tiie Board of Directors and declares that the Tacoma baseball club will be oper ated on a strictly business basis from now on. President Rothermel announced to night that the club would remain in Tacoma. It Is probable that Rothermel will trade Bert Hall if lie can get an other magnate lo accept the option tinder which hr is held by the Phila delphia Nationals. The local club will report March 20 and the first exhibition game will be March 23. with the Uni versity of Washington. Mrrrii-k Will Lecture Tonight. C B.
