Farms need tobe peopled and cleared, orchards to be planted and cultivated, homes to be founded. The state awaits investment and industries. and well directed effort. For this it offers unbounded opportunity, prosperity and success - - - "It has been a custom in the past to set aside a day to be known as colonist day, at which time it was urged that all Oregon people write to Eastern friends, telling them o the oppor tunities here and inviting them to cast their lot with us. It is proper, as loyal and patriotic citizens of Oregon, to draw a true picture of the state and its possibilities for our Eastern ,-: friends, for the truth needs no embellishment. "Now, therefore, I, Oswald "West, Governor, by virtue of the authority in me vested, and in view of the foregoing premises, do hereby appoint and proclaim Thursday, February 22, to be known as Colonist day throughout the State of Oregon, and I earnestly recom mend that all the people on this day write their friends and relatives in other states show ing them the great possibilities of Oregon for the farmer, the stockraiser, the dairyman, the poultryman, the fruitgrower for all productive industries in order that those whom Oregon needs may be induced to join with us in the upbuilding arid the development of our magnificent state." EVE R Y M AM. WOMAN AND CHILD CAN EL m The development and growth of our great state and city is of vital interest to every citizen. It is a co-operative movement that calls for the help of every man, woman and child. The commercial organizations of the city and state are doing magnificent work, the railroads are doing everything in their power in fact, he Oregon -Washington Railroad & Navigation Co. and Southern Pacific Lines in Oregon have inaugurated and developed the greatest co-operative "Publicity Campaign ever undertaken. Over fifty communities in Oregon and Washington have joined forces with" the railroad involving the expenditure of hundreds of thousands of dollar and the issuing of millions of pieces of literature handsomely illustrated and describing the advantages of each locality and the state generally. But this is not enough. The commercial bodies can not accomplish the desired results alone. Neither can the railroads. . ' To get the maximum results to crown the effortsof the commercial bodies and the railroads you must help. Carry out Governor West's proclamation. Write your friends and relatives .in other states, showing them the great possibilities in Oregon.
