The political horizon in Yamhill County is yet cloudy, but the clouds are rapidly dispersing;. There are can didates for nearly every office. Only the legislative ticket ij open. The avowed candidates up to the present time are W. G. Henderson and C. H. N'eaJ. Republican, for Sheriff; O. W. Jones, Republican, who has served eight years, for County Clerk; H. Z. Foster, Republican, for County Treas urer; Martin Miller, Republican, prob able candidate for re-election for Coun ty Assessor. S. S. Duncan, Repu-blican. who was appointed School Superintendent a few months ago, is the only candidate for that office. Commissioner S. K. Cum mins. Republican, has not announced whether or not he is a candidate, while Roy Lamson. Republican, of Wtllamlna, Is talked of for that place. W. W". Nick els. Republican, has announced his In tention of becoming a candidate for County Recorder. A complaint was filed in the Justice Court today charging Peter Peters, who resides in the Claskanie Kiver district, with having killed a doe, in violation of the state law. The offense is al leged to have been committed last Friday. It is alleged Peters, who waa accompanied by three young boys. stood on the Astoria Southern Railway Company's trestle, which crosses the South Fork of the Claskanie River and shot the deer as it was in the river. Two men, walking along the track at the time, saw tne snots urea ana an- erwards examined the deer, finding- it was a doe. Bark Lewis' Steward Is Suicide. ASTORIA, Or" Jan. 24. (Special.) The British bark William T. Lewis, which arrived last evening from San Francisco In tow of the tus Dauntless, reports that on January 20, when the -vessel was off Point Reyes, J. B. Brooks, the steward, committed suicide by shooting: himself. He was buried at sea the next day. Brooks had been drinking heavily while at San Fran cisco.
