January I. a weu-sinown critic says of him: "In certainty and rapidity of execu tion every phrase was as clear-cut as a precious diamond, and the themes came sinking forth In most delightful cadence. His piano passages were caressing and tender, while there was no uncertainty In the thunderous for- tlsslmos. To say his listeners literally hung upon every note of the great artist's playing Is stating the fact mildly. After each group the applause was tremendous and Da Pachmann was recalled again and again, finally re sponding with delightful encores.
