Aaron Holts and associates an nounce that work will begin Immedi ately on the sevn-story department store building. The contract for the construction will be awarded today. Tha building will be of rtructnral ateel. pressed brick and terra eotta exterior and will coat approximately f IS0.0OO. It will be fully fireproof and one of the most modern buildings for department store uaea In the North-went- The company has been capital ized at 100.000 and virtually all of the Mock ha been subscribed by Portland capitalists and business men. "V now have everything In shape to go ahead with our enterprise." said Mr. Holts last night. "We have ampla capital available to construct a fine building and to stock the store with merchandise. Referring to business conditions In the East. Mr. Holts said that the situ ation was exceedingly satisfactory. He visited the large cities In New England and also the cities of New Tork. Phila delphia. Chicago, Toledo. Minneapolis and Detroit. "Normal business conditions prevail In the commercial business of the East." said Mr. Holtx. "Tha political situation does not seem to affect condi tions to any great extent. It found many persons who are directly Inter ested In Oregon. In the next few years 1 look for a big movement of substan tial settlers from the Eastern Statee to Oregon." Y. M. C. A. BOYS LAUDED International Secretary Saysj Local Body I Leader. Greater work is being accomplished by the boys' department of the Port land Young Men's Christian Association than bv the boys' department of any other Y. M. C. A. But the Portland Association needs enlarged facilities for handling the boys' work, which, in my opinion. Is not second to any other activity In the Y. M. C. A." Mr. Koblnson also commended the work of the boys home, which la con ducted by the local Y. M. O to pro vide clean and belpful surroundings for boys who work for meuger pay. County Clerk, against tha County of Multno ma h. Mr. Fields Is seeking a writ of man damus compelling County Auditor Mar tin to deliver to him salary warrants for several months, which were held back on the theory that Mr. Fields should give to the County Treasurer money collected aa naturalisation fees. Half of the $i collected from each ap plicant for final citizenship papers goes to the Department of Commerce and "Labor at Washington.
