An effort win bo made to have all commercial bodies In the affected terri tory Join In th movement- SALMON RATES ARE CUT Railroads to Ret TO Cent as Tariff to Eastern Points. Reduced rates on salmon ehlpments from Coaat terminate to all polnta eastward have been announced by th railroads, effective in S5 or 40 days. This will enable the rail carriers to compete with ocean transportation lines and will give the packers advan tage of an earlier Eastern market. The present rat is 8S cents for 100 pounds in shipments having a minimum rate of 40.008 pounds to all Eastern points. . The new rate will be 70 cents for 100 pounds with a minimum weight of (O.oeo pounds a shipment to all polnta between the Missouri River and the Atlantic seaboard. Th rata to th Atlantic Cosst will b 75 cents for 100 pounds, with the same minimum limit. The old rata of S5 cents for 100 nounda will be maintained for thoee who want to ship la quantities of 40,- 000 pounds. GUARD SENT TO COAST GEXERAIi ITXZER ISSUES OR DERS TO STATE TROOPS. National Guard to' Observe How Regulars Man Fort Guns and Practice to Repel Foes. Coast defense maneuvers In which the entire Oregon National Guard will participate are to be held early in August, orders directing the movement of Guard troops having been issued yesterday by Adjutant-General Flnser. The orders direct that the Third Regiment proceed August 7 to Colum bia Beach where camp is to be es tablished. With the Third Regiment will be the Ambulance Company and Battery A. The Fourth Regiment is directed to proceed to Fort Stevens. All tha troops will thus be in touch with the Army fortifications at tha mouth of the Columbia River and the problems assigned wiU relate to re pelling invasion by landing parties from the sea and defense of the Coast forts from the rear. The exercises are such as might have to be worked out in reality In the event of invasion from the -Pacific. Ten davs will be spent in camp and during that period thorough Instruction will be had in field work.
