FANWELL IN, BOX Although He Loses Game, Recrtilt " Trom ClereUnd Shows He Can PltehKoestneT Succeeds Him In th Seventh Inning. FT W. J. PETRAIX. Hatty Fanwell. MeCredle's latest Cleveland recruit made hli debut on the slab for Portland ' yesterday, and vhll he loet his own gama by a 2-to-l sAore. be demonstrated that he la a capable pitcher. Sacramento rot to Fanwell In tho first Inning and two hits, one of them a, scratchy one through Rodgers. and a wild pitch by the Portland slabster s-ave the visitors two runs. Portland waa unable to solve Clarence Thomp son for more than one ruts and uc cumbed to the OKourke trlba before the big Sunday crowd. Fanwell walked Shlnn. the flrat man up, and fajled to fool O'Rourke. who slnsled. and two were on the paths. Catcher Thomas sacrificed, advanc lng both runners, and Fanwell butted In with a wild pitch which allowed Bhlnn to tally the first run. Danslg then laced a hot grounder toward Rodgers. which got by for a hit and O-Rourke tallied what proved to be the winning run. Kraeger Register Tally. In only one Inning In the frame did Thompson fall to retire the first bat ter, and that waa In the sixth, when Kraeger opened up with a two-base wallop Into the left field crowd, and cored a moment later, when Jack Barry bounced one Into right field for a single and took second when the toss was made to the plate. In this Inning. Rodger reached third when his bound er to Shtnn caught Barry between third and home, but Walter Kuhn, sent In to bat for Murray, fanned and the oppor tunity went glimmering. McCredle sent Koestner In to bat for Fanwell in the seventh, and the silent one pitched the balance of the game, allowing but one Senator to reach first during his actlrlty. The fielding feature of the game wa a great one-handed catch of a hard liner from the bat of Thomas, made by Pecklnpaugh In the eighth Inning. This stunt served to appease the appe tite of the fans, even though Portland lost the game. Portland scored si bits, while Sacramento registered but five, but the Tlsltors were favored by tuck In that first Inning. Boor Tell Story.
