The feeling of uncertainty which has been present In the stock market of late was more pronounced today and the list was feverish. Discour agement over tha outlook for industrial con ditions seemed to be the chief reason for the Increase In bearish sentiment, the situa tion at present being so confused that stocks which have been held for months now seem to be coming on the market In fairly large volume. The poor outlook for the steel and iron trade was perhaps the chief cause of dis turbed conditions. Ths quarterly report of the United States Stee! Corporation, which is due tomorrow, is expected to show earnings far below those of the corresponding period of 1910. Latest estimates of the report suggest earnings In ths neighborhood of 928,000.000. The figures for the quarter of Isst year were 937,01(1,000. while earnings for the last quarter of 1910 fell to 9-3.- 990.000. The copper stocks were more prominent today than they have been for some lime snd late In the day Amalgamated Copper showed a gain of 2 points. Buyers of these stocks expressed confidence that a change for the better had taken place at last in the copper trade. Ths continued flow of cash to this center. as shown by ths last bank statement, csused further shading of rates for time money. Some loans extending over the first of next year were placed at 8H per cent.
