Paul Hoot Believed to Have Started . Another Bull Campaign -All the Exporters in the Market. The Oreson hop market has become a strong- affair. Thirteen cents remained the quotation oa choice yesterday, but all other grades bs.ee advanced a all cent since tbs middle of the week. It Is harder to bar than It was a few days aa-e. There are at til msny sellers la the market, but they are more Independent than they were. Louis Larhmund Is the heaviest buyer, nts purchases to date being; estimated at about ftOQO ' bales. The belief pre rails amort g hop men that Paul R. O. Horst. for whom Lachmund la buying, has started an- other biff bull campaign, and If this Tiew I is correct, it means much for the Oregon market. Among; Lachmund's purchases yes terday ware the Porter lot of TOO bales at Cornelius and the Mall oy lot of 61 bales at Laurel, both at 13 cents. He bought other lota la the Laurel section at the same price. The largest single deal made this season has Just been closed by Catlln fc Linn, who bought the Walker Bros. crop of 600 bales at Independence. The price was said to be 13 cents. There was also a report that John Car- , mlchael psvld 13 cents for the Perclval lot of about 500 bales, but this was not con firmed. vTarmlchael bought the Iy Foon crop of 133 bales at Aurora at 12 cents. Klaber. Wolf 4k Setter's purchases during the day were 231 bales, mostly In Tamhtll Ounty. at 11 to 13 centa. Ralph Williams, another em-port buyer, secured 6O0 bales at Pallas at 2 cents. An Interesting rumor In circulation was that Henry L. Bents was also In the market. H. L Hart cloeed up a number of deals yesterday, aggregating OQ bales, paying from 10 to 11 cents. Purchases by McXeff Bros, were 161 bales from G. A. Foster, of Dallas, S3 balea from Dare Crulkshank, of Gaston, and 06 bales from Ecks Brtk, of New berg. The T alt I ma market Is also making a better showing than It did early In the week, prices having been raised all around. There were bids In Takima yesterday of 11 to 1?' cents and 300 or 900 bales were sold there at 11 to 12 cents. Nothing was do ing in Western Washington. The California market also continues quiet. Bradstreets to- i morrow will say: Trade Is Irregular and still lscks snap, but the better undertone noted last week has become more dissemi nated, causes for the improved feeling have ben the official confirmation by the Gov ernment crop reporting service of the trade estimates ot bumper yields of corn and oats and larger than expected yields of wheat; the liberal marketing of crops, more espe cially cereals, livestock and cotton; the ad vent of cooler, settled weather In some sec tions snd the rather better tons of the securities market. t Improvement, as a whole. Is not marked, and the conservatism earlier noted Is still manifest In small and frequent rather than larcer buying. In some lines, as. for Instance, cotton goods, the proof that stocks of goods are reistiveiy i.ATht nss become more evident. and with higher prices for the rsw material nave come nardentns demands Tor tne roods themselves. .Wool is firmer thsn of late snd there has been liberal buying at the Interior by large manufacturers, but advices of mild weather affecting past and present final distributions are numerous and tinge reports from markets where at this date heavy w earing apparel Is usually In de mand. SELLING IS- A MYSTERY Increased Activity Shows Its Effect on the Money Market Additional Resources Available Next Week Bonds Are Firm. NEW YORK. Oct. 1 4 -Increased activ ity in stock market dealings today showed Its effect on the money market, but In no such degree as to restrain activity. Loans on call made today carry over until Mon day, .and the exemption from anr severe strain built up confidence In the amplitude mi resources. ine special requirements addition to the stock msrket to be met In the payment of large sums tomorrow for dividends and Interest made tranquillity of lie money marxei tne more noticeable, ana Increased the belief that the resources would be returned to the money market next week. The hla-her call loan rat this wlr la believed to have proved attractive to the irui companies and otuer institutions out side the Clearlne-Honse snd so to hire re lieved the demand on the bans for credits in connection with stock market aetlvltv. The selling In the afternoon re ant Ion ob viously was induced by the attractive profits accrued and there was do flurry in money. The desllngs in United States Steel were on an enormous scale, and racAlIad tha divi of great market movements of the past. The growing congestion of dealings In this una scocK generated suspicion ot tne gen eral movement on the score that a desire to distribute a great accumulation of this stock in the hands of powerful private bankers lay at tbs back of the present movement. The Immediate news from tha ataal trad showed no explanation of the apparent heavy accumulation of this stock. There was neard the contention, however, that events of the last few dava have shaned themselves In favor of demand of the rail roads for advances in freight rates. It is Assumed thst the assurance of increased revenues to the railroads will release lara-e orawi ior material irom mat source, wnicn been held in abeyance, while the rate case vas being arwued.
