Sold by ail deal FROSTS ARE NOT FATAL CENTRAL. OREGOV FTEXDS WILL YIELD FXIX CROP. High Altitude DopfM't ' Canse Low Temperature Is Report ' Made to President Stevens. Lata seasons and early frosts have not affected tha grain fields of Central Oregon ia tha encouraging report brought to President John F. Stevens, of the Oregon Trunk Railway, by two Inspec tors who have returned from an auto mobile trip through that aectlon. mado with the specific Intention of studying conditions there. The Inspection was made partly to set at rent tha reports that have been cir culated .that owing to tha altitude of Central Oregon late HpMng and early Autumn frosts In that district are detri mental to successful grain growing. ' The report received by President Stevens show that thla rumor ia wholly unfounded. Photographs of excellent grain fields, where tha crops have ma tured perfectly, were taken in all sec tions where proximity to tha railroads under construct ion has encouraged the growing of grain. ' One photograph shows an oat floM where tha crop had been harvested. This Mid waa aeeded In 107 and since then baa been producing volunteer crops. Tbe 1110 volunteer crop yielded 26 bushels to tha acre. A cross study waa made of the Fort Rock country, where last Pali and Win. ter there waa a big rush of homestead ers.' Most of the settlers In that sec tion have lived there but one year or less and have been clearing their land of sage brush, building houses, digging wells and making other improvements. The cropralslng attempted baa been mostly on the part of the "old settlers," or these who have- been there Iwo years. Rye has been planted and has done well. Tha railway company's agents found tha settlers well satisfied with tbe country and their prospects. GRADING WIIX BE RESUMED ' ' .. Contractor and Engineer Inspect Region, South or Bend. CRESCENT.
