As Gregg was the star of yesterday's Same, Hitt was the bright particular light today. It was as if the teams had changed names. The Vernonites could not hit Gregg yesterday and Speas was the only Beaver to get a hit today, and that an infield scratch hit.. Hitt had one erratic spell in the sev enth period, when he walked Ra-pps and fisher in succession, but aside from that ihe was Invincible. Hitt Also Good Hitter. He was also a feature at the bat, mak-' lng three of Vernon's hits out of four times up. The Beavers pimply had an off day, but It seemed to strike every member of the team at the same time. The Vernon ites, on the other hand, with Hitt in the box. worked in championship form, a srlad surprise to the fans, for Vernon has been pretty vbbbly of 'Jate. In the second inning Coy doubled and reached third on Burrell's infield single. Beaton hit Lindsay, filling the bases, then Hogan flied out. but Hitt came to the rescue with a single that scored Coy and Burrell. More Bases on Balls' Given. Coy and Burrell also scored in the sixth after getting first each on balls. . They fwere advanced a base on Lindsay's sin gle, and then Hogan squeezed Coy over, while Burrell romped home- on another by Hitt. In the eighth Coy was walked again, took second on Burrell's out, and scored onee more on Lindsay's same hit. Then Hitt singled again, scoring Lindsay. And the game was all over, so far as tally-getting was concerned. The score: VERNON. . AB Tt H PO A E Stovall. rf 5 0 1 1 0 0 N. Braihear, lb 4 2 14 0 0 Carlisle. If 3 0 1 3 0 0 R. ONE SLAPPED BY- DUGDALE Players Have Drawn Fat Salaries, but Have Failed to Make Good. Bunting Said to Have Dis couraged Thompson. SEATTLE, Wash., June 16. (Spe cial.) Clyde Hall, a Seattle pitcher, who deserted the club yesterday after noon after having his salary check cashed, was followed by Gus Thompson late last night as the club was depart ing for Vancouver. Thompson escaped Dugdale's wrath, but Hall was less for tunate and, his face was slapped hard: Both of these pitchers have been drawing fat salaries, but somehow could not deliver the goods. Hall was hit hard every time he tried to niteh. while Thompson was disheartenedby the bunting . game, which the rival cjuos used to good advantage. On a bunt Thompson would take deliberate aim and throw away over the first baseman's head. . A few days ago Thompson said he would quit playing ball if Dugdale had not treated him so well. How Hall succeeded in persuading Thompson to quit at the last moment is something or a mystery. It was rumored yester day afternoon that Thompson Intended to quit with Hall, but he said nothing about It and showed up when th team was about to leave. Hall had a talk with him and then he decided to desert. A MT. ANGEL DOWNS CHEMAWA Nine Victories Out of Twelve Games, Record, of College Team MOUNT ANGEL COLLEGE, June 16.
