UNIVERSITY OF OREGON". Eugrene. Jan. 14. (Special.) Before the laj-gest crowd that ever attended an intercol legriate debate in Eugene. th Univer sity of Oregon debating team tonight defeated the University of Utah in a hitly contested forensic battle. The de rision of the three judges was unani mous. The Oregon students, fired by en thusiasm at their victory, rushed on the platform when the decision was an nounced and carried the winners from the hall amid cheers. Their spirit was the more Intense because this is the first intercollegiate debate Oregon has won in two years. The Oregon debators, Percy M. Collier and Carlton E. Spencer, defended the affirmative qf the question. "Resolved, That all corporations engaged In inter state business should be required to Incorporate under Federal law, it being mutually conceded that such legisla tion would be constitutional and that a system of Federal license shall not be available as an -alternative solution." Utah was represented by S. H. Ham ren and C H. B. Anderson. The Judges were Alfred C Schmidt and President H. M. Crooks, of Albany College, and It. IX Hetzell, of -Oregon Agricultural college. The exact attendance was 455. This is a record for debating contests here, though football crowds often reach 6000 persona In Eugene. In view of recent criticisms concerning the decline t of debating at Oregon and this state institution, tonight's victory. It Is be lieved, give a Impetus to forenslcs. BAKER HIGH WIXS DEBATE Defeats Ontario In First of Series of Triangular Contest. BAKER CITT, Or., Jan.' 14. (Special.) This was the first of this series of triangular debates to be held in Eastern Oregon. VANCOUVER LOSES DEBATE Puvallup Too Strong for Girl Repre sentatives of HlgH School. VANCOUVER. Wash.. Jan. 14. (Spe cial.) Puyallup won 2 to 1. in the debate on the commission government of cities which was held in Puyallup tonight be tween the High schools ,of Vancouver and Puyallup . Miss Frances Stone and Miss Mabel Hilstrom were the representatives of the Vancouver High School. subject of the address was "The Hous ing of Poultry." The speaker stated that too little attention is given poultry by most own ers and that many farmers keep chick ens merely as a necessary evil. - Mr. Lunn said in part. "There are several questions which arise when considering the keeping of chickens for profit. One of these ques tions is the proper method of housing and yarding fowls. "In the construction of houses for chickens we must consider first of all the matter of ventilation. It is not enough to keep the house wacm. It is better for the fowls to sleep outside altogether than to sleep in a poorlj ventilated house or, on the other hand, one with drafts. "The roosts should be placed on the same level, because if they are on a slant the chickens fly to the top one and crowd each other. Special care should be taken to keep the yards clean and spaded up." ANNOUNCEMENTS.
