The official re turns correspond very closely with tha esti mates made by Pacific Coast dealers, who figured that the crop would be between J00.00O and 5:0.000 cwt. Many of the Lon don dealers, however, who had the ad i vantage of knowing the exact conditions missed the mark wlrjely. guessing 350.0OO rwt. and some of them more. While the 1909 crop Is tha smallest In more than a quarter of a century, there were previous to 18S2 some very short yields snd also In that period some 700.000 cwt. crope.
