Some time at the close of the week an exhibition is to be held at the Commercial Club con sisting of views In and about Bugpae made by Kispr. one of which Is a pano rama of the entire city, with others showing the various industries and sub urban districts. The views are hand painted and are pronounced excellent by those who have seen them. It Is pro posed to have these views on exhibition in one of the hallways of the club for one day. the club being thrown open to wo men visitors as well as to members of the club. The pictures were secured by the Commercial Club of Eugene for dis play in tiie OrtRon building at the -Alaska-Yukon-Pacifie Exposition at bat tle. . The date when these views will be displayed in this city will be announced tomorrow. Oregon P.ehries iv Market. The first Oregon grown strawberries of the season made their appearance In the Portland market yesterJay. J. c. Mann, a mer chant on Grand avenue, had on exhibi tion several boxes of the fruit that was grown on the &am Bnice ranch, cast of Gravelly Hill. Multnomah Cotintv. Samples of the I;,, cue River product were also distributed yesterday by Frank K. Alley, of Rosehurg. who brought with htm several choice boxes of this fruit in the distribution of which several of his friends in the Portland Commercial Club shared. The thoroughly ripened. fr-sli luscious fruit proved a most welcome and pronounced improvement over the scrawny. half-evaporated, refrigerator quality which has been sold in the market for the last three weeks. Halzllp. of K Corbett building, com plainant against Cecil B. l.loyd. automo bile proprietor, state that the circum stances which led him to cause IJovd's arrest hart been misrepresented. He filed a compUtnt against LJoyd because he says Lloyd was driving at the rate of 50 miles an hour on the Foster road. In stead of being married as stated In the account of Lloyd's arrest. She emphasised the need of the Industrial department m-hlch Includes child-labor and the Consumers' league, first organized here, and tho compulsory school law for which she worked. She. spoke of the sweat-ahon evlis and how to remedy them by buying only good? .... ujr i ue league. She talked of tho servant girl problem and the need of a household helpers' club. She advocated appointing a social secretary who- should visit working girls and find out their needs. The problem of the messenger and newsboys Is another demanding in vestigation. ON WILLIAMS-AVENUE LINE BODY IS FOUND IN RIVER Itinerant Vmbrclla Mender Thought to Have Committed Suicide. Believed to be that of an itinerant umbrella-mender, the body of an uni dentified man was found In rhe river yesterday about three quarters of a mile below St- John. As a sack con taining rocks was found around his neck. Coroner Xorden aaya th man evidently committed suicide. The man was about 50 years of age and was clean-shaven. His head was free from hair, .but this la believed to be due to the action of the water. One thumb was cut off. but It Is thought this occurred before death. The body was found by W. R. End erwels. who was Ashing where Ogden Sluogh empties Into the Willamette. Of Beer Bredford was notified and the body turned over to the Coroner. Employes on the SL John ferry ap peared to recognize the body and said I was that of an umbrella-vender and repairer who last crossed the river about three weeks ago. This agrees with the Coroner's estimate of the time the body was In the water. Both legs were ground off near the thighs, and tba lad died three hours later. There was a scene of wild confusion on the car Immediately after the acci dent. Women screamed and men rushed to nere the child lay. There were several cars Immediately behind the one that struck the boy. and In a very few momenta a large crowd had gathered. one excited person turned In a fire alarm, and two women fainted. An ambulance waa called, and the little fellow, who had xnn lost con sciousness, waa taken to the Uood Ka marlian Hospital, where an operation was perform, d by Ir. A. K. Hlrshey. n their report to Agent Boynton. they said that the car waa running at a rate of about ten mile, an hour, and had Just turned the curve on William avenue, about 30 yards west of Cherry street.
