A maxa meeting of repreaentailva citizens of Midway ami Sellwood, wraa held In the publlo ball at Midway last night to take steps toward having East Seventeenth street opened through Midway and the Ladd farm. The park Aii.ttinn was n inn discussed, and a per-. manent Improvement club was formed. Frank Gibson presided, ana sei iorin ia a few remarks the object of the meet ing. Councilman A. N. Wills, by the use of a map, explained what Is Intended In the opening of East Seventeenth street. The plan Is to open the street from Its present end at Ainsley avenue to the Ladd farm, and then through the Ladd farm by the Ladd estate 200 feet east of the Mllwaukle road to Sellwood, or the south side of the farm, a total dis tance of about one mne. as some bouses In Midway must be moved and soma lots appropriated, Mr. Wills ex plained that such damages would be paid for. After bearing Councilman Wllla, the meeting voted to proceed with the temporary organization of a push club, Frank Gibson being elected temporary chairman and H. Tabke, temporary sec retary. L. W. Darling, William a Sib son end W. A. Sanders were appointed a committee on constitution, to report next Thursday night. At that meeting a special committee will be appointed to Investigate the proposed extension of East Seventeenth and assist In Its opening If found satisfactory. The park question was discussed by Councilman A. N. Wills, Walter Adams and L. W. Darling. It being the pre vailing opinion that Midway and Sell nurht to nt&nd tosrether on this question. The Mayor's veto of the or dinance authorizing the purchase of the 13 acres atoeiiwsoa was wiamcuwu va by Councilman Wills, who expressed the opinion that the price asked for the land $4000 an acre, was reasonable, considering the value of the surround ing property. A resolution Indorsing the action of the Sellwood Board of Trade in urging the purchase of the tract In question for park purposes was adopted. An in vitation to attend a meeting of the Sellwood Board of Trade next Monday nio-h, tnr further consideration of the park question was accented.
