GOES TO ORPHEUM J. H. Errickson Will Succeed Manager C. N. Sutton. y CORDRAY TO TAKE GRAND Transfer of Director of Portland' I.l-!-t Yande-rille House to Ittitte (imsrn Important t'hanpr In the I.ot-al Tliralrical World. A lerjdil shifting in local theatrical affairs waa announced yesterday by which James If. Errlckeon, who has bern (general jnanag-er of the Sullivan A- Consldine and Orpheum Interests In this territory, will assume the active management of the Orpheum theater at the same time retaining supervision over the Urand theater. This means That Chester X. Futton who has been so successful in his management of the Orpheum since the advent of the fa mous vaudeville circuit In Portland, will leave to take up other work for the Sullivan-Consldliie circuit, while Air. Krrickson will take active charge of the orpheum. and John F. Cordray. J'ortland's veteran thratrral manager will assist Mr. Errickson. In the man agement of the Grand. The news comes as a distinct sur prise and will create something of a sensation In local theatrical circles. Jt appears that the recently appointed manager of 'the Orpheum Interests at Unite haa discontinued his services with the famous vaudeville syndicate owing to his inability to hajidle tne labor situation In the minng cty. John V. Consdlne. the biprgest figura In Western vaudeville came to the city yesterday and In view of existing con ditions decided upon a change that seemed necessary to him. According to his directions Mr. Sutton will be trans ferred to Butte and James H. Errlck on who Is general manager of the -Sullivan & Consldine Interests In this territory for a number of years, will take active charge of the Orpheum at the same time retaining general su pervision of the two theaters owned by this big vaudeville syndicate in Port land. ilr. Consldine has decided upon John F. Cordray. perhaps the best known the atrical man in the Northwest, and who has for a number of yeans been one of the chief reliances of the vaudeville syn dicate, to take charge of the Grand un der the general direction of Mr. Krrlck eon. at least for the time being. Mr. Cordray has been for some time the gen eral utility manager for the circuit and has successfully opened and launched a number of the most successful theaters for Sullivan & -Considtne, notably at epokane, Denver and Butte. He Is a resident of Portland, and one of the pio neer amusement magnates of the North west Coaet. For 20 years and more he ha been identllled with local theatricals and olwaya in the best manner. Mr. Krrlckson has been In charge of the Sullivan & Consldine Interests here for about four years, and has thoroughly established himself as a man of rare ability and scrupulous probity aa a theat rical man of practical experience and capability. There will be no question among local theatrical patrons as to the ability of Mr. Errickson to supervise the Interests of the SulliVan & Consldine circuit here, for he has already thorough ly demonstrated his ability as a theat rical manager of wide experience and thorough Judgment. f No man has ever endeared himself more rapidly to the local public than Mr. Putton. AlthouKh a young man. he has displayed remarkable Judgment and busi ness perspcculty In the direction of the butstness of this big theater, and few busi ness men who have ever come to Portland have mad" so many genuine friends In so short a time. His departure, although It Is understood to carry with It a de rifled advance In salary". Is a distinct loss to Portland, however much It may rman to him as a forward movement In his business. Portlandera will always have the most kindly remembrance of Mr. Sutton and will cordially wish him the greatest degree of success wherever hia lot may be cast. He will probably leave for "Ids new post the latter part of this week, and Mr. Errickson will at once take active charge of the Orpheum whilo Mr. Cordray will at the same time assume the duties of assistant to Mr. Ijrlckeon as manager of the Grand.
