George H. Williams is reported to be suffering with an attack of grip, but inquiry at his residence late last night gave the reassuring information that the venerable statesman was considered to be in no alarming condition. He attend ed the football game yesterday afternoon at Multnomah field, but was compelled, to return to his home on account of not feeling well. On account of Judge Williams' advanced age. the report of his illness occasioned great concern among his friends and acquaintances, and that means everybody who knows anything about the history of Oregon. Dr. K. A. J. MacKenzie was called in to see the dis tinguished patient last night. M. A. MEYENDORFF IS ILL Prominent Government Official's Condition Is Regarded as Serious. Michael A. His connection with th Interior Depart ment has been a long and honorable one, and he has figured conspicuously in the Government Investigations of land-frauds. DISCUSSES STEEL'S BOND Governor's Investigation of Sureties Is Still in Progress. "I am still carefully Investigating the sufficiency of the sureties furnished by State Treasurer Steel for his new bond in the sum of 600,000," said Governor Chamberlain yesterday. "In the main, I find that the bond is satisfactory, but some of the bondsmen are not satis factory, as I have already intimated, and I shall ask that they be replaced, shpuld the aggregate signed for by the approved sureties fall below the amount of the bond. It will be several days yet before I can complete an Investigation of all the euretles." Governor Chamberlain spent yesterday with bis family In this city.
