f THE MOKSXXG 0KEG05IAN, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1907. 13 NEW LINES D R A W N Precincts Have Grown Beyond Prescribed Limits. , DISTRICTS TO BE ALTERED Oonnty Officials Take Steps to Fix Precincts so Xnmber of Voters in Each 'Will Not Exceed Maximum of GOO. Because the last city election showed that 21 of the precincts in Portland contain more than 300 voters each, the number allowed by law. County Commissioners Llghtner and Barnes and County Clerk Fields are making arrangements to add a few new pre cincts to the city by cutting down the size of the old ones. Some of the precincts as they now stand contain nearly 5oO voters, the largest one hav ing 498 and the smallest in which a change is to be made. 310. The greatest difficulty experienced in a large precinct is the time it takes to count the votes. At the last election it was 23 hours before the returns could be made from precinct 37. In precincts 7 and T4 of the county 37 hours was required to count the bal lots, and another precinct required 36 hours. All this calls for a reduction of the size of the precincts. After the contemplated changes are made some ef the precincts of the city will be partly wet and partly dry, but the voters may alter this to suit them selves at a coming election. Only ward lines will be followed In making the new precincts, but the Commissioners cannot yet tell where the lines will He. They said yesterday that It would be about a week before they would know definitely how many precincts the city will have after the new lines are laid. The precincts which are to be reduced in size, the number of votes cast at the last election, and the num ber of hours taken to count them are as follows: Elec- Precipct. Emerson Wilson, formerly the hus band of Clara Wilson and of Lizzie Wilson, was haled before the Juvenile Court yesterday afternoon to tell of his actions while living with Clara Wilson, his first but divorced wife. In a house boat on the river, with a 3-year-old adopted child. During this time his second and lawful wife was living in town, and finally brought suit against Wilson In the Circuit Court to obtain a divorce, which was granted last Fri day. The child was yesterday given into the care of the Boys' and Girls' Aid Society, but may be sent to South Bend, Wash., to be cared for by Wil son's mother, as the information in the hands of the Juvenile Court is to the effect that she is an estimable woman. Wilson testified he bought the scow last June, and then Clara went to live in it. He said he was an engineer in the steamer Hazel Weir, and when in Portland lived with the divorced wife. At this Judge Frazer said the man never should have been divorced from the woman in the first place, if he loved her so much as all that, and that this case ought to show, that divorces are sometimes granted when they should not be. The Judge showed that he thought it was the love letters which Wilson was receiving from hlB first wife which caused his separation from the second woman. The little girl told the Judge about the arrangement of the two rooms in the boathouse where Wilson and his first wife lived. ESTATE IS SOLD AT ArCTIOX Proceeds From Property Ijeft by Henry Wilson Goes to State. The real property belonging to the estate of Henry Wilson, consisting of two lots, were sold by the Sheriff to Morris Senofnky yesterday morning for $000. the estate having escheated to the state because there are no heirs. A large crowd was present as Deputy Sheriff Hollingsworth stood on the Courthouse steps to auction off the prop erty. Mrs. WoodcocK started the bidding on one of the lots at $2000. The lots were first knocked down at C50 and $3750 each, but sold together for ISOOO. Since Wilson died in April, 1S99, three sefs of persons have come forward claiming to he his heirs. Christine Enger, an aged woman claiming to be a sister of the dead man, fought her case twice in the Circuit Court, and once In the Su preme Court, being defeated each time. John C. Shillock, receiver of the estate, holds $5000 in cash, which, inaddition to the $S0M received yesterday, will make the total amount to be received by the state treasury $13,000. WIFE WOULDN'T LET HIM GO Divorce Granted to Husband Who Couldn't Attend Lodge. J. M. Davis was granted a decree of divorce from Malvina Davis by Judge Frazer. of the Circuit Court yesterday. The case went by default, the plaintiff testifying that his wife could never agree with rim; that she wanted to live In the city while he enjoyed country life; that she would not mend his trousers or socks, and that she was very much averse to his attending lodge functions. He said he once con sented to take part in the lodge pro gramme, but that on the night of the entertainment his wide hid his cos tume in the house and then locked all the doors. He said that on another occasion when he was elected a mem ber of the lodge entertainment commit tee she held him so he could not go. "The couple were married at Joplln, Mo., in January, 1S9S. Searchlight on Woman's Character. The case of Mrs. Albers. who lives at 740 Union avenue, and who is said to have been found in a saloon at Union avenue and Fremont street last Saturday night with several men. is being investigated by Chief Prolttlon Officer Hadley, and If it is found that she frequents such places. It is probable that her S-year-old child will be taken from her and placed Charcoal Kills Bad Breath Bad Odor of Indigestion, Smoking, Drinking or Eating Can Be Instantly Stopped. Sample Package Mailed Free. Other people notice year bad breath where -you would not notice it at all. It is nauseating to other people to stand before them and while you are talking, give them a whiff or two of your bad breath- It usually comes from food fermenting on your stomach. Sometimes you have it in the morning. that awful sour, bilious, bad breath. You can stop that at once by swallowing one or two Stuart Charcoal Lozenges, the most powerful gas and odor absorbers ever prepared. Sometimes your meals will reveal them selves in your breath to those who talk with you. "Yon've had onions," or "You've been eating cabbage," and all of a sudden you belch in the face of your friend. Charcoal is . a wonderful absorber of odors, as every one knows. That is why Stuart's Charcoal Lozenges are so quick to stop all gases and odors of odorous foods, or gas from indiges tion. Don't use breath perfumes. They never conceal the odor, and never absorb the gas that causes the odor. Besides, the very fact of using them reveals the rea son for their use. Stuart's Charcoal Lozenges In the first place stop for good all sour brash and belching of gas, and make your breath pure, fresh and sweet. Just after you've eaten. Then no one will turn his face away from you when you breathe or talk: your breath will be pure and fresh, and besides your food will taste so much better to you at your next meal. Just try it. Charcoal does other wonderful things, too. It carries away from your stomach and intestines, all the Impurities there massed together and which causes the bad breath. Charcoal is a purifier as well as an absorber. Charcoal is now by far the best, most easy and mild laxative known. A whole boxful will do no harm; In fact, the more you take the better. Stuart's Char coal Lozenges are made of pure willow charcoal and mixed with just a faint flavor of honey to make them palatable for you, but not too sweet. You just chew them like candy. They are absolute ly harmless. Get a new, pure, sweet breath, fresh en your stomach for your next meal, and keep the Intestines in good working order. These two things are the secret of good health and long life. You can get all the charcoal necessary to do these wonderful but simple things by getting Stuart s Charcoal Lozenges. We want you to test these little wonder workers yourself before you buy them. So send us your full name and address for a free sample of Stuart's Charcoal Lozenges. Then after you have tried the sample, and been convinced, go to your druggist and get a 25c box of them. You'll feel better all over, more comfortable, and "cleaner" inside." Send us your name and address today and we will at once send you by mail a sample package, free. Address F. A. Stuart Company, 200 Stuart building, Marshall. Mich. with the Boys' and Girls' Aid Society, or with come private family of good repute. It was noon Saturday when Mrs. Albers reported that the child was lost and could not be found. Upon finding the boy, Officer Mallet went to the Albers home and found the woman gone. She was at last located in the saloon. State Court Notes.
