Two days of patriot jubilation are assured the people of Portland and their friends by the committee having in charge the details of the Fourth of July celebration this year. Another meeting of the gener al committee has been caflled to be held at the Council Chamber, at the City Hall, at 8 o'clock tomororw night, when the many features of the two days' entertainment will be decided on. Following the Instructions Qf the last meeting of the general committee, General O. Summers, chairman oi the committee, assisted by Sol Blumauer and H. H. Newhall, met and revised the different con'mittees, replacing the in active members with men who will lend their earnest support to the work, for the proper performance of which there remains none too much time, since the anniversary to be celebrated is but a month distant. The reception committee consists of the members of all the other com mittees. It is desired by the members of - the general committee that the chairman of each of the subordinate committees arrange for a meeting -of his committee at once, so that a report can be made at the general meeting to he held tomorrow night, not only as to the features of the entertainment each committee has to offer, but also as to probable cost of each, so that the pro gramme for the celebration can be mapped out. The committees have been offered the use of the rooms of the Chamber of Commerce for their meetings and Sec retary Clark will recommend to the general commltte- that these offices be accepted as permanent headquarters. The soliciting committees are re Quested to report progress at the meet ing tomorrow night arii' be prepared to return all books and final report at another meeting to be held Friday night. The committees regret the ac cident to H. W. Kerrigan, one of the enthusiastic members of the committee on sports. Because of an accident he sustained recently, Mr. Kerrigan will probably be unable to actively assist In this important feature of the ex ercises. It ha- been decided by the commit tees in charge of the celebration to conduct the business pertaining to It in a business-like way. They propose to forestall all charges of any irregular or extravagant expenditure of the cele bration funds. Before being audited, every bill must be certified to by the members of the committee by which the expense was contracted. It will then be sent to the auditing com mittee when a check will be issued.
