Hall, of San Francisco, representative of the First Assistant Postmaster-General, who was In Portland this week. Mr. Minto evolved the idea of having a car or cars for the collection and distribution of suburban mail.- The cars should be fitted up, Mr. Mlnto says, in a manner similar to the mailcars on the railways, where every convenience is had for the rapid and convenient handling of mail matter. According to Mr. Minto's idea a car could make several trips a day to suburban points, arriving and leaving on certain scheduled time. Mr. Hall was favorably impressed with the idea and promised to recommend it to the postal authorities In Washington. In the meantime Post master Minto will endeavor to ascertain the cost of such electric mallear service and forward estimates of same to his superiors at the National capital.
