THE MORNING OKEGONIAN. FRIDAY. AUGUST 17, 1906. 2 ROGER SULL i '-pmSSs.- THE OLDS, WORTMAN & KING STORE lT".l. IS Phenomenal Bargains in Today's 172d Grand Friday "Economy Sale" Underpricings ! MAGNANIMOUS Asks Illinois' Democrats to In dorse Bryan for the Presidency. WISE POLITICAL SCHEME Retaliates for leader's Attempt to Drive Him Out ot National Com mittee by Heaping Coals of Fire on Him. CHICAGO, Aug. 16. (Special.) Roger C. Sullivan, Democratic National committee man, today essayed the role ot heaping coals of fire upon the head of William Jennings Bryan, who has demanded that Sullivan get himself to the ash barrel. For political reasons Sullivan is willing to return Bryan good for evil. Although, the Nebrasnan has sent several messages marked "Bush, important" to Illinois Democrats, commanding them to throw Mr. Sullivan off the National committee, Mr. Sullivan has expressed a willingness that his friends in the state convention indorse Mr. Bryan for President. The National committeeman sent out letters today to district leaders through out the state advising them that the 635 delegates from Cook County will vote for the Bryan resolution. Of course there is a clause attached to this magnanimous announcement to the effect that these same 535 delegates will vote against any resolution condemning Sullivan, but that is another matter. The Sullivan leaders are willing to give Mr. Bryan the Illinois indorsement, if it will please him any. At the same time Sullivan is not saying that the convention will indorse Bryan. This policy of "turning the other cheek" Is considered wise politics on Sullivan's part. It promises to help him win his fight to prevent his own condemnation. NOMINATIONS IN IULINOIS.
