12 aiOKXIKG- OREGONIAN, SATURDAY, ATJtxTTST 267 1H)5. IN THREE-CORNERED RAGE KHiBURN, ALiLiIAXCE AND ROA NOKE SPEED UP THE COAST. Former "Wins in Hun From Eureka to Coos Bay Seattle Schooner Confiscated for Fishing. . x'he steamer Alliance, vrhlch arrived up yesterday morning "from Humboldt and Coos Bay points, brought as part of her cargo a carload of white cedar doors from a North Bend company, the first ship ment of the kind made from that point. The steamer also had five carloads of redwood doors and shingles from Eureka for the East; also 25,000 feet of Port Or ford cedar, 50 boxes of Coos Bay cheese and a quantity of miscellaneous freight. The steamer had an interesting race with the F. A. Kilburn and the Roanoke from Eureka to Coos Bay. The boats left the lower port together, but the Kil burn reached her wharf at Coos Bay about for hours ahead of the Alliance and five and a half hours ahead of the Boanoke, according to the officers of the winning steamer. The Kilburn, on coming Into this har "bor, ran Into the dock of the Portland Flouring mills and tore away a portion of horraiI. The steamer was running close to the dock in order to pass a barge, and when near the mill her steering-gear broke. The engines were at once re versed, which prevented a more serious accident. The damage will be quickly re paired. SCHOONER IS CONFISCATED North Proved to Be Engaged in Illegal Fishing. VICTORIA. B. C, Aug. 25.
