September 23 is the date and arrange ments are now being: made for the fulj est possible observance of the Important occasion. Invitations are being sent out from Xewls and Clark headquarters to the Governors of every state In the Union to 3e present at the exercises and entertain ment which It ha3 been decided to give In the Oregon building. Invitatlfcs will also be sent out to the Fair Commission ers of the various states. President Francis, of the SL Louis Ex position, will make the address of the day and there will be a number of other eddresses. Director TV. D. Fenton will go from Portland for the purpose pf de livering the Lewis and Clark address. .Following the set programme, refresh Tments will be served In the Oregon build ing to all the invited guesta and others who attend. That the observance of Lewis and Clark day will be of great value to the Portland Exposition from an advertising standpoint there is little doubt. The date will be extensively advertised as Lewis and Clark day, and thus many of those attending the Louisiana Purchase Exposi tion will learn more of the coming "World's Fair of the West. Columbia County's exhibit at the Lewis and Clark Exposition Is now under con sideration by the County Court and county officials at St Helens, who will iannounce within a few days the scope and nature of the exhibit Columbia Coun ty intends to make. President Myers, of the State Commission, who visited the tcounty a few days ago in company with 'Commissioner R. Scott, Air god the of jficlals with whom he conferred to mako 'the largest and best exhibit possible, 'since much will be expected of the coun ,ty because - of Its richness in resources and its close proximity to Multnomah County. The Lewis and Clark State Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting this afternoon in the Commission's room in the Stearns building. The important matter "of erecting more buildings will be taken up for discussion. There are several structures which have not yet been provided for. Including a LIvestocK buildings and a Festival Hall. The big structure originally Intended as a Fes tival building has since been changed in design to meet the requirements of a building for foreign exhibits. The needs of such a building were greater than that of an entertainment building, and since there were not aailable funds for an other building like the original Festival Hall, the substitution was made. F- O'Shea tendered his resignation as a member of the Board of Directors yesterday afternoon because of the de mands of business affairs upon his time. L. A. Lewis was named as Mr. O'Shea's successor. THREE INJURED Iff COLLISION Automobile and Trap Come Together In Pittsburg. PITTSBURG, Sept. 9.
