THE MORNING OREGONIAN MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1G, M03. 11 WHEATISWEAKENED High Freights Depress the Grain Market. THE SUPPLY IN ARGENTINA Uopg-rovrera Ilefn w to 3Inke CflnccR alons and Ilrevvcra Are Not In the Market Hulter I'Vum ltlalio. The wheat market was dull and weak Satur day. In addition to lower cables and the de cline In the lint, the advance in freight here Had a further depressing effect. On the basis of the latest charters written, shippers say club tor export In not worth over 74 cent, and fclumtem, they figure. Is worth from M to 87 ents. Still holders will not sell at this price, uhlle millers are In the market for all they can set. and California is also demanding Oregon grain. The Argentine wheat crop has pot beyond wet weather delay to the moi-ement. If the shipments from that country and the enlarg ing supplies at the ports count for anything. Burins the past week the Argentine visible supply Increased 575.000 bushels, and now amounts to l.bOK.ooo bushels, though the ship ments were 1.274.UK). Last year during the tame week the shipments were only 5S,ao fcushels. and the visible Increased 40S.000 buh els. amounting then to l.CO4.i0 bushels. The hop market has ruled dull, with the only business passing being that between dealers. Growers refuse to part with their hops ar the ruling price, and brewers are not In the mar ket. The exports and Imports at the. port of Now York fur the week ended February O compare as follows: Exports Imports Domestic to from reci Ipts. Europe. Europe, bales. bait-, bales. "Week ended Feb. !.. l.rn 2.S2S 510 Cor. (fk last year. 1.223 2..SS3 Mo Sine S-pumbr '...Oo.rw 32,780 ti.743 Same time last yjar.iS.3D4 37,015 4.IU2 The country produce market were quiet Sat urday. The most Interesting feature was the receipt of a shipment of butter from Idaho, about the tint to have reached Portland from that quarter. While the market Is Arm at the moment, there la no prospect of Its going high er, and some dealers rather expect a decline In the next week or two. Egga have held up "tetter than expected, the low price stimulating the demand. Chickens were In fair supply, but receipts cleaned up' promptly. Trade in fruits and vegetables wax llrtit in the latter half of the week. Stocks of nearly all seasonable varieties were plentiful. No changes hai'e occurred In staple groceries since the Irte decline In sugar. Turpentine ad vanced another 3 cents per gallon. According to null advices received from Lon don there will not be more than 20.000 sealskin eaojuca available for the ladles "that must walk gay" in tho world this year. The offer ings of skins In this great sealskin mart of the world, whence such a large amount of cklns arc shipped yearlyfrom Victoria, showed o. shrinkage of 5000 cklns over the past year and a considerable shrinkage ovtr previous years. With cold weather In Europe causing a good demand and the short supply, the prices realized were good. POKTLA.tD 3IAIIKET3. Grain, Flour, Feed. Etc.
