Saturday was another strong day In the wheat markets, Chlcace. New York and San Fran cisco recording advances. "Liverpool was un changed, but other foreign markets were high r. Locflllv. the tone Is firm, with trading light. The "scrap" In Umatilla County has como to an end. after buyers for Puget Sound mills secured somo 75,000 bushels, and prices throughout the interior are near the normal level. The Australian demand Is not so strong as It was two weeks ago., and no new business Is reported In that quarter. The local hop market was fairly active early in tho week, but quieted down In the latter art and was dull Saturday. Growers views have been so enhanced by the recent rise that they would not meet buyers' offers. Of Puget Bound markets, the Tacoma News says: During tho past few days several small rales have been made, and Inquiries are more plen tiful than they have been at any time since early in December. As has been stated in these columns tho hops that are still back In the country are mostly owned ,by Individual ranch ers, and it has commonly been reported that they were holding for 20c, yet dealers say It Is bard to get hops at that price now, ana een 2GHc seems hardly a temptation. As one buyer puts It, "A week ago the rsyicher thought ho was holding for 20c. Now he is holding for 30c. and if hops go to that price any time soon he will be holding for 35c or 40c" The hop mar ket is always orratlc and liable to sudden changes, and this year It is more so than-usual, owing to the considerable shortage In the world's crop. Just what Is causing the present Budden advance Is hard to say. except that Eastern brewers have suddenly made up their minds that they are In tho market for a few thousand bales. Oregon hODs arc still leaders In the Pacific Coast market, as they have been during tho entire season. The Oregon hop Is said to have a slightly better color than either tho "Wash ington or California crop, and whether tins Is true or not It seems that buyers bellove It, as they aro willing to pay from y&Vit per pound more for them. The produce markets wero qulot. Saturday .morning on account of tho stormy weather. The day's vegetable receipts consisted of a car -of cabbage, and one of sweot potatoes. A car of oranges came In from Southern California. Dealers say the oranges arriving lately have not been entirely satisfactory. The warm days and cold nights caused the fruit to color rap idly, but not to ripen. Apples are coming In Tjetter, and are moving well. The demand for poultry fell off somewhat Saturday, but not very much was carried over.. Eggs are not moving at all. retailers waiting the market to reach bottom. Quotations are nominally 2225c for Oregon ranch stock. Seeded raisins are quoted lc higher, and spe cial brands of mackerel $5 per barrel higher. Cornmeal Is lower in tho East, but local quota tions are not yet affectbd. Cut nails have de clined 5c I'ORTL.CVD MARKETS. Grain, Flour, Feed, Etc.
