it THE MORNING OREGONIAN MONDAY, OOTQBEB 20, 1002. PRODUCE COMES BY RAIL S.ECEIPTS FROM CALIFORNIA ARE yOT STOPPED. Good Closing; of a Sntlafactory Week ml Trade Excitement in Wheat Belt JIoiik Are Strong. The week closed satisfactorily In the whole sale markets. Trading has been good In nearly every line and few dealers have cause to com plain. Receipts of California fruit fell, oft -when the San Francisco steamers tied up. but the loss was partly made up by bringing in produce by express. This Is an expensive method, and was followed 'by a. tnarklng up of prices on some orietles. Saturday a carload of miscel laneous goods came Jn by freight over tho Southern Pacific. It made fairly good time, having left San Francisco Tuesday. The- street Is full of Oregon- Concord grapes., tho demand for which is not up to the supply. Apples are also plentiful and sell, slowly, but will do bet ter when the weather gets cooler. The only change- of .Importance in. farm pro duce was uti advance In c In cheese Saturday. Fancy grades of .butter are firm and fresh ranch eggs are scarce, and sell readily at tho top fig ure. The poultry market drags somewhat, but quotations are no lower. No changes were made Saturday in groceries, nuts, dried fruit or meats. The hop market Is only fairly active, but the price continues strong at from 2l!25c, as it has ruled for several days Dast. There was not much doing in the way of transactions in wheat Saturday, though there was considerable excitement throughout the country. Growers are ilrmly convinced that the tendency of the market is upward, and are not letting go of their wheat to any great extent. Competition is brisk among buyers for the few lots offered. Shippers here quote club vheat at M65c. export value. Millers are In the mar ket at a slight advance over these figures. PORTLAND MARKETS. Grain. Flonr. Feed, Etc. "WHEAT Walla Walla.
