Learning makes a good window In character, hut It Is uot the door Into It. They who make light of truth get no light from truth. No greater legacy can any man leave than that of a good life. If you are afraid of being slnccro you are likely to be but Hhlfty. Tlio more precious the Word, tho greater the value of your works. You may know how precious the Bi ble really Is to a man by the extent to which he batiks on It. There U no promise that the walls of Jericho shall fall before the high notes of the church choir soprano, When you wonder nt a man's bril liance It Is well to count what It cost him In cutting and grinding. Too many of the Lord's children nev er will believe that lie will spread tho table unless they can smell the cook ing. Many people who thlnl; that they would surely have built the ark If they had been in Noah's place, never glvo the Lord more than a nickel when Ilo Is asking for their lives. BIT8 OF MANY METEOR9. Collection of tlio I.nlo l'rof. Ward tliu l.urKCxt Prlvnto Oiks Contrary to the layman's assumption, the comparative value of a meteo-ito H:lrftlou lies not hi much lit the alzo of the Individual specimen as In tho number of known meteorites which are rcpivKeiited, says the New York Trib une It Is Just that which makes the late Professor Henry A. Ward's collec tion, now on deposit In the American museum of natural history, so Impor tant, for It contains specimens of (V)'l out of n possible 077 known meteorite "lalls" or "llnds" In all parts of tho world. 'I ho untimely death of Professor Ward, who was killed by an automobllo at Iluffalo on July fi,, has called renew ed attention to Ills splendid collection, far and away the most valuable In America and the largest private collec tion In the world. Professor Wards enthusiasm and prodigal expendlturo of energy and money placed him head and shoulders above his rival collect ors. Part of his success In making tlio collection so nearly completo came from exchanging valuable duplicates for specimens which ho needed, but which money could not dislodge, In other col lections. Meteorites nro named after the place In which they fall or are found. A meteorite on meeting tho earth's atmos phere becomes heated to such an ex tent by friction that disruption takes puice. Consequently parts of the samo "fall" or "llud" aro on exhibition at different museums, and the aim of tho collector Is to have all known falls or llni's represented In his cabinets. Tho Ward collection, which is valued at $100,000, has representations of US per cunt of nil known meteorites of Austra lia, Asia, Africa and South America. 1(5, per cent of those of North America .ind 07 per cent of thoso of Kurope. Thirty of the specimens thero aro l.tlOO hi all me tho largest single pieces known In their respective falls. The total weight of the collection Is r,B0i pounds, and some of the hits aro worth $20 a nim. Afrnlil It Would HllU. Senator Tillman piloted a constituent around the capltol building for a whllo and then, having work to do on tho tloor conducted him to the Senate gal lery. After an hour or so tho visitor ap proached a gallery doorkeeper and said: "My iiiuuo Is Swnte. I tun n friend of Senator Tlllnmn's. Ilo brought me hero and I want to go out and look around a bit. I thought I wou'd tell you no I can get back In." That's all right," said the doorkeep er, "but I may not bo hero when you return. In order to prexent any mis tako I will glvo you the password so j on can get your seat again." Swiite's eyes rather popped out nt this. "What's tho word?" he asked. "Idiosyncrasy." "WlmtV" "Idiosyncrasy," "I guess I'll stay In," said Swato. American Spectator. A Correction. "You called mo it 'political Jobber' In your paper this morning," began tho Irate visitor. "Yes," replied tho editor, "that was a bad break. I discharged that typo Immediately," "Oh, theu you didn't mean to say thatV" "Certainly not. I wrote 'robber' very plainly." rnliaiieipnia i.eser.
