IIow the Votk Stood. Tho assembly on Friday adopted a series of resolutions pledging California's support to the Government in the prosecution of the war. Thero wero but five noes. Thirty eight Republicans voted " aye," twenty-two Union Democrats voted " aye," and nino did not vote; and five lireckinridgcrs voted " no," and f jur did not vote. No Republican or Union Democrat voted in the negative; no Ureckenridger in tho iiflirmative. No ono spoke ngainst tho resolutions ; no Urcekinridgers spoko at all. A CALL TO TUB IMON OF LAM! tOlM'V. The Supremo Court of this State lately decided in tho case of Oregon vs. Multnomah county, for tho recovery of State tax, that the sums of money assessed and cliarg d to the several counties of the State, constitute an intact fund, to bo paid in full by tho treasurers of such counties ; that neither of tho counties nor the treasurer can deduct anything therefcom for the centage or commission ; that tho coun ties, respectively, aro solely liable for coinmis sions on the State tax ; and that the Secretary of State, ex oflijio auditor, has no authority or right to pay commissions to the county treasurers upon tho State tax. sv -. Tho London Times tells tho operatives of Manchester that a war with this country will set ail the cotton mills hum ming on full time, but on the contrary such a war will bring starvation to their doors. Skins of all kinds of unimuls'wuntcd, whether common or rare, whether feathery or hairy. If persons do not wish to spend their time in removing the skin, send us the bird or animal and we will attend to it ourselves. In skinning, the bones ofthe head and legs should be lelt, after dis placing the skin sufficiently to remove the flesh, eyes, etc. As the skull is ulso a fair index to the structure, nature and habits of animals, n collection of them, of ull kinds, whether they be of things which walk, crawl, Hy or swim, are wanted. Entire skeletons would be preferred. i i BUSHELS of birds eggs wanted, this coming spring XJ and summer, to assist in the perfection and study of the new science of Oology eggs ot even the most common kinds of birds. A description of the nest, its position and structure, ulso of the kind of bird ami tho time when it lavs its eggs, are necessary, und should be accompanied by Ihe head und wing of the bird. Rocks of all kinds wanted, especially those containing fossils, the different kinds of metals, etc. Hants of all kinds, with their flowers, collected and pre served in herbariums, whether described or not, ure also wanted. Those interested in tho progress of science in this couu try will find this u favorable opportunity for rendering their assistance ; und to the youn especially, wo would say, you cannot engage in u more interesting and laudable enterprise than making collections of the desired speci mens.
