A correspondent writing to ns from Des Chutes under date of July 2.1, says that a few days prcviouly, in Walla-Walla valley, Wra. Kelly shot and killed his son'ia lad of 8 or 9 years. Some cattle had got into his fields, when, losing his patience at their trouble, he went out with his revolver to shoot them. Mrs. Kelly, not wishing to seo the cattle injured, told her son to go and drive the cnttlo out Wore his father got into tho field. Tho son was out among the cattle, nnperceived by his father, when the latter fired away at random. The shot took effect in the child's forehead, and he died in a few hours. Capt. James Tevis, of tho sutler's schoon er" James Buchanan," was lost overboard, July 22, while crossing Rock Creek Rapids, somo 30 miles above Des Chutes, and sank before assistance could reach him.
