Death of a Revolution rt Soldier. Tho Danville (ffy.) Tribuno announces the death of Mr. John Sliced, of Doyle Co., in that Stale, in tho 101st year of his age, and adds : lie was born in Albemarle county, Vir ginia, on the 3d day of February, 1 753, was for some years the Secretary of Thomas Jcilcrson, then volunteered in an expcdilion against the Chorokco Indians, and after that becamo a soldier in the Revolutionary strugglo, in which service he continued until tho close of the war. He was with Washington at Yulley Forgo during nil tho privations of that disastrous period ; after wards fought under tho same great chief tain at Monmouth, and was one of the gal lant army who received tho thanks of Con gress for their conduct iu this cugngement. He was then detailed, with a number of picked men from various regiments, to Ihe command of Col. Morgan, and finally wcul to Iho South with Green, under whom ho served until tho t-xpiratiou of the war. At the battlo of Guilford he was taken prisoner, and when conducted into the presence of LorJ Corowallis, tho following questions woie put to hiiii by that nobleman: "Where is the baggngo of tho American party!" "Out of your reach, sir," was the reply. "Why so I" "Hecnuso the American party ia between you and it." When peace ro liirned, ho emigrated from Virginia to this State, and here lived until utmost 101 years old. An intense excitement has been created both in Crcut Driluin and en the continent of Europo by revolting developments made public at a coroner's inquest held ut Rugely, England, on the body of J. Parsons Cooke, sporting man, and owner of the famous racer Polar Star. It appears that Wm. Palmer, an associule of the deceased on the turf, and a surgeon, administered poison to him for the purpose of evading payment of a rating debt, and of taking up the amoont of au Insurance which he (l'ulmer) had efficted in London on the life of (he deceased. During the progress of the investigation it was made pretty clear thnt l'ulmer had poisoned nol only Cooke but his own wifo, hit brother, and fourteen other persons. Amongst the number of his victims, it it said, was the late Lord George Dentinck, who, during his sporting carcor and before he had de veloped his talent for public busiuess, was unfortunate enough to muke his acquaint a nee.
