Senior Lunch — 11:30 a.m., Bob Chisholm Senior Center, 1225 Local 4-H dog owners win at Oregon State Fair Candice Kerr, with her black Labrador Retriever, Jam- mer, and Dalton Smith, with his Great Dane, Daisy, represented Clatsop County and their 4-H dog club, Paws n’ Action at the 150th Oregon State Fair Aug. 28 in Salem. At the most advanced level offered that day, Smith and Dai- sy won Obedience champion, only one point ahead of Kerr and Jammer, who took reserve champion. The obedience class was Graduate Novice, which means that all but one exercise is per- formed off-lead, where the dog is free to move about without limitations. Kerr also won a Top 12 Medallion with Jam- mer in Showmanship, the only required event for all dog com- petitors. Older couples invited to attend workshop A workshop, “Couples in Transition: Midlife and Beyond,” is being presented Sept. 18 in Room 219, Columbia Hall, at Clatsop Community College, beginning at 8 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast. The workshop is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Couples age 50 or older: What makes this group so different from other ages, and what do therapists do to meet the growing demand for services with the “tsunami” proportions of people in this age group? The workshop provides new insights, methods and strategies to work effectively with client couples, with guest speakers Rich Hedlund and Pam McGill. Hedlund has many years of experi- ence in intensive family therapy, couples work, and group and individual therapy. Most recently, he has been involved in developing older adult life coaching and elder peer counseling programs. He holds master’s degrees in marriage and family therapy and public administration. McGill has worked in behavioral health as a nurse, marriage and family therapist and psychiatric nurse practi- tioner working with adults. Her experi- ence ranges from individual, couples and group therapy. As a nurse practitioner, she also prescribes psychotropic medication. Together, Hedlund and McGill have researched and developed a program for transitions to older adulthood, and prac- tice together in Loveland, Colo. Having lived in Astoria for several years prior to Colorado, they will soon be returning to WKH 3DFL¿F 1RUWKZHVW WR FRQWLQXH WKHLU work with the over-50 population. The cost for the workshop is $150. The groom is the son of Doug Smith and Mary Ann Jesse, both of Astoria. The bride was given in marriage by her parents. The offi- ciant was Sky Smith, brother of groom. Maid of honor was Kristann Quigley of Warren- ton, sister of the bride. Brides- maids were Ariel Mercier of Sterling, Alaska, friend of the bride and groom, and Harmo- ny Margart of College Place, Wash., sister of the groom. The bride is a 2008 grad- Brook and Allison uate of Astoria High School, Smith and a 2012 graduate (cum laude) of Eastern Oregon University, with a bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies and elementary education. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education from Eastern Oregon Univer- sity, and is an elementary school teacher. The groom graduated from Astoria High School in 2007. He graduated from Eastern Oregon University with bache- lor’s degrees in history and English in 2012, and received his master’s degree in teaching in 2013, also from EOU. He is a high school social studies and English teacher. A reception was held at Winn Homestead. Appetizers and dinner were provided by Graze Catering of Walla Walla, Wash., and dessert was a “build your own” ice cream sundae bar and wedding cupcakes by Frosted of Walla Walla. Music for the wedding and reception were provided by DJ Chad Pinkel- man, of Lake Stevens, Wash., a friend of the bride and groom. The newlyweds spent two months visiting 11 National Parks in 10 western and southwestern states, touring in their camper van. A winter getaway to someplace tropical will complete their honeymoon plans. The couple resides in Delta Junction. Quigley — Cibulka Kristann Quigley of Warrenton, daughter of Richard and Jennifer Quigley of Astoria, exchanged wedding vows with Nicolas Cibulka of Astoria on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Eco- la State Park in Cannon Beach. The groom is the son of Brenda Frehner and Douglas Cibulka, both of Wisconsin. The bride was given in marriage by her parents. The ceremony was performed by Sarah Malinen, friend of the bride. The bride graduated from Astoria High School in 2004. She received an associate de- gree in applied science from Clatsop Community College in 2006, and an associate de- gree in dental hygiene from Clark College in Vancouver, Wash., in 2008. She is a den- tal hygienist at Tongue Point Job Corps. The groom graduated from high school in Wiscon- sin in 2000, and from the Nicolas and Kristann University of Wisconsin-Os- Cibulka hkosh with a bachelor’s de- gree in sociology in 2007. He received his master’s degree in counseling in 2014 from Lakeland College in Plymouth, Wis. He is a mental health therapist at Willapa Behavioral Health. The reception was a backyard barbecue at the home of the bride’s parents, complete with build your own s’mores. The couple spent their honeymoon in Seaside, and reside in Warrenton.
