TD HAVE 1 DELEGATION AT R. LJL TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION PLANS FOR A TRIP TO PORTLAND NEXT JULY PORTLAND. Or. April II -Retail dealer In fod product rapidly are adjusting their price list lo meet the constantly Increatlng demand of the 1 wholesaler, fibber and manufactur er. Obviously th retailer cannot ab orb th additional charge mad by the men "higher up" and quit nat urally pass th cot along to th con turner. Kierytblng U going up eicept the salaries. And no relief I In sight. Contrarl wUe. price threaten to Increase for th neit few month, or until the new crop ran be barrested. Nor will th new crop make much of an Impression unlet there Is enough of It. I'eopl who want to reduce th high er coat of tiring will bare to wield the lure or destruction through her super thl summer. It may not be much to tb credit of Oregon that on of her principal food product wheat galna the doubtful distinction of being respon slble for most of th food world art atltig proclivities. A wheat goea up flour goe up. and along with flour go a great Tarlety of bakery product, from paghettl and macaroul to pie and rake. Hour now is selling at tb retail stores at f 2 S3 for a sack of 43 pounds. The price Is eipevted to reach 13 be fore the new crop Is placed on the market. And the new crop Isn't apt market. And the ne wcrop Isn't apt to help the situation much, as It Is due to be far below the normal In vol ume. This same 49-pound sack ot flour that now sells at I! 55 was only $2 15 before the United States entered Into war. What the average consumer can't figure out Is the cause for this difference In price. Doubtless the grower, the grain dealer, the miller, the wholesaler and the retailer all made a fair profit at f 2.15. Nothing ot ralue bas been added to the flour since the price went up. No extra cost bas been attached to Its production or Its marketing. "Who, then, gets that extra 70 cents?" Is the consumers' pertinent query.
