The depression caused by the pros pect of war Is greatly alleviated by the sight of the red. white and blue which ever way one may turn. Thcugh hoping that our young men may never be sent to the front, it is gratifying to see so many of them ready to an swer their country's call. Few indeed are the homes or the places of business from which the stars and stripes are not floating to the breeze. Children are taught by example as well as by precept to sa lute the flag whenever occasion may be fitting. CEADRDALE. J CEDARDALE. Ore, April 10. Mr. and Mrs. Bonney spent Sunday even ing at Orem's. Perrr Williams and Harry Beck are suffering from the measles. Leonard Orem has gone to Mullno to work in Knit's mill. A new saw mill is being erected on the Dooghie place on Nate creek. Cedarville had a very entertaining program at the school house Saturday evening, the Colton Dramatic club fur nishing part of the program. The Cedardale society decided on the bell they are to purchase which they hope to have ready for use soon, also one new picture and two chairs for the school room. Nine pupils at Cedardale received diplomas for averaging 9S in four spelling contests. Millard Orera being the only boy in the bunch so lie feels quite import ant. I. V. Trulllnger's mill is shut down for repairs for a few days. A. 0. Orera and wife spent Monday at the latter's home in Upper Colton. Mrs. G. Cooper, of Portland, spent the week-end at her son's, A. M. Cooper. LIBERAL. The sewing club will meet at Mra Joyner's next Saturday afternoon. J. Cooper, who has moved on the Gilmore farm, lost a horse last weok. Ed Sheet, who is working for his brother-in-law, George Ellers, of Port land, spent Easter Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. Scheel. Fred Stler broke the cable on his sled drag-saw recently. Franz Kraxberger was at his ranch at Liberal on his way to and from Portland recently. Bruno Kraxberger has been plowing on his father's ranch at Liberal. Mr. and Mrs. T. Harders made a trip to Estacada last Monday. MRS. NORTH PA8SE3 AWAY IN PORTLAND. BARLOW, Ore, April 10 Mrs North passed away in Portland at the home of her daughters, after suffering sev eral strokes of paralysis. Mrs. North was taken to Portland several weeks hgo, after Buffering from the second stroke. She had many friends here, who hoped she might recover and en Joy the freedom she had so well earn ed. Her many friends will be grieved to hear of her demise as she was a Jolly, lively little woman, patting sun shine into all who met her.
