Fraternal Visit tin Thursday evening of last week the steamer Alert left Portland on a spe cial trip upon this special occasion, bringing to this city 11. V. G. M. Wil liam Morton, visitors from Samaritan and Hassulo lodges I. O. O. F., Port land, and visiting members of several lodges within the Jurisdiction. The fraternity of Oregon City had mad-; ample arrangements for the accom modation of its guests before hand ond met at the lodge room at an earlv hour, prpared to march to the wharf to receive them. The landing was made at . o'clock, and then the pro cession, headed by the Oregon City brass band, tinder the direc tion of P. C illlam P .llrns, was formed in lln. Oregon I-odge No. 3. preceding the guests, and retracing steps to tho lodge room. While the "brothers" were employed at the lodge room there were many "sisters'' and daughters patiently waiting at the Cliff House for their re turn. Soon after 10 o'clock the pro cession again formed and halted at the Cliff House, where after a few moments of preparation, the assem blage (numbering some 200, ladies and gentlemen), sat down to the table as excellently prepared with the delica cies, and all that goes to make up a most excellent supper, as we have ever sat at. The host and tho host ess certainly did themselves and their patrons justice In every sense. After the cloth was removed the order of sentiments prolonged the festive scene until midnight, and undoubtedly would have longer continued with interest, but the impatient and impromptu movement of some person posted as to tb9 location of the whistle string of the Alert. Dr. Barclay was the only guest pres ent, noa-aff mating. Ho was intro duced by a sentiment from P. G., J. M. Bacon: Dr. Barclay, mayor of Oregon City. "Our Honored Guest: Although not a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, he is known to be u zealous member of our bister lodge. the Ancient Free and Accepted Ma sons. May he ever be held In high estimation by all Odd Fellows... The honored guest responded: "Having the honor of being invited to your festival, and although never having been Initiated into the myster ies of your ordi.T, I look upon this as being akin to Masonry, of which I am a member. Your presence here this evening asserts the harmony of union linked together by the mystic tie. Your lodge is a world of miniature milted chords of friendly fellowship, ever extending the band of benevo lence from east to west and from south to north. May it always con tinue so to be perpetuated to your childrens' children." Other toasts were given, and were to the following: "To the Jtight Worthy Grand Lodge of Oregon," by H W G M.( William Morton. lo Our Guests Members of Sa maritan and Hassalo Lodges," by p. G. Mann. "The Symbols of Our Order." "To Hassalo Lodse Xo. 15, Port land," by N. G., William Dic-rdorff. "The American Union." "To the Ladies, Wives of Odd Fel lows," P. G., J. H. Douthit, of Albany. "Portland," Hon. A. C. Gibs. "Oregon City," Captain Crabdall, of the Daily Oregonian, (pulling at the whistle of the Alert asbefore men tioned, as he was absent about that time). "The Members of the Oregon City Band." During the banquet the band fur nished musical selections, rendering Ha!I Columbia," ftnd other patriotic eelections. At this stage of the proceedings, the band again led the procession to the wharf, and soon after the steamer with its precious cargo, cast off, and with happy hearts both on shore and aboard, the participants in the real pleasure of the evening turned their faces homeward.
