'The most Interesting thing about the sheep show," aald Commissioner C. L. Hawley, of McCoy, "is the exhibit of New Zealand's 'Corrledale' sheep, a new breed remarkable for size and mugnlflcent as a shearer. This new breed la a cross between Lincoln and Merinos," continued Mr. Hawley, "and la an extradordinary product of an ex traordinary climate and environment The New Zealander have been work ing on this breed for some time and now have It definitely established. The animals shown here are beauties and a revelation to sheepmen generally." Oregon has a fairly representative showing at the sheep show and there Is hope of landing some of the top notch places in the final Judging. Polk county has home unusually fine Cotes wolds, tlicse coming from F. A. Korer und Riddell & Sons. The luttcr is also showing I.incolns, as ure Hawley & Son. of Polk; C. E. Cleveland, of Gresh am. The Oregon building now boasts the most remarkable apple exhibit on the exposition grounds a three box dis play of Newtown Pippins from the crops of as many years. Beside a box of the 1915 crop stands another of the 1914 crop, and besides that Is a third box of the 1913 crop. Except for the fact that the 1914 apples are yellow, as a matter of course, there Is little or no difference between these and this year's apples. The box of fruit picked in 1913 is a very deep yellow and is not far from decay, but these apples still taken a splendid polish and are not discreditable beside the others. This display occupying a special posi tion and properly plucarded is made by H. O. Frobach, of the southern Oregon booth, and attract a great deal ot at tention. The keeping quality of Ore gon apples has been impressed upon, visitors most thoroughly during this fair, placards telling Just how long fruit has been on display. While Cali fornlun experts change the fruit in their exhibits every , three or four weeks, Oregon's representatives find it unnecessary to make a change under ten weeks and in many instances boxes of apples are kept on display four months. Giving Away Seeds. This is agricultural week at the ex position and every emphasis has been given to the exhibits in the Agricul tural Palace. Oregon's participation in this is confined to the giving away of packages of seed,' wheat, oats, barley, etc., of which there is a goodly quan- down with a bang when prices sagged 15 to 20 cents and Omaha was also lower. With extreme weakness in the other markets of the country, this "one cannot be expected to develop strength. Cattle and sheep were reported steady, although the yards are bare of the latter. Strictly first class sheep would sell readily and at good prices as there is a demand for them. Receipts were 52 cattle and 216 hogs. Fifty boxes of Sltpzenburg apples from Aashland. 50 from Medford. 50 from the Willamette valley. 50 from Hood River and 50 from eastern Ore gon are being placed on display in the Oregon building and on November 15 will be given to the thousands certain to be attracted by Oregon Apple Day. These apples are of the 96-to-the-box size, and with fruit already on hand to be given away, no less than 25.000 to 30,000 people will be given a big juicy apple from Oregon on this greatest of fruit days. This will 111) a long-felt want, for throughout the season at tendants haze been constantly besieged with the plea for an Oregon apple"Just one sample" of the fruit of which all visitors have" heard and so few tasted. Loganberry Juice, prunes fresh and slewed, eastern Oregon popcoru, Cas cadia mineral water, Tillamook cheese, Klamath county honey and cheese, Oregon roses and Willamette vulley cherries have been given away at the Oregon building with such spludges and programs as to attract wide atten tion, but not before this time has an apple been offered. Visitors have looked and longed and countless num bers have offered to buy, but the at tendants could only give the addresses of Oregonian growers who could supply the demand. Many have been delight ed to get the addresses and in this way the business should have been consider ably stimulated In Oregon. Certain it is that the demand In the San Fran cisco markets has been Increased, and some of the dealers report an Increase of 100 per cent. , Another Wonderful Display. The real display of Oregon apples at this time Is that in the Palace of Hor ticulture, this being comprised of the 100 boxes sent for competitive pur pose. These apples come wholy from Hood River and Rogue Rive valleys and are the finest those fumed sections can produce More than thirty varie ties are represented, and the display, Just now being finished for Judgment by the Jury ot awards Is beautiful be yond compare. Oregon has a larger number of competitive entries than any other state and there is confidence that the jury will find that Oregon has the finest fruit being shown at the expo sition. The display Is set in the center of the Oregon pavilion at the Palace of Horticulture, con not be passed by the thousands and will not be passed by any who catch even a glimpse, for it is one ot those displays that hold the attention and bring out those satis fying "ohs." and Christmas dinners. Practically nothing Is as cheap as it was last year, and in the great majority of cases the European war Is entirely re sponsible. Of course there may be one or two instances In which certain "interests" have been able to take advantage of the situation and boost prices of some commodity controlled by them. These, however, are be lieved to be few and far between. Take Care of That Itching I All Itch ing Border on Eczema. Do you regard that Itching as a seri ous thing? It Is!
