Renewed efforts to wipe from the statute books the requirement that a certificate of health be presented before a marriage license may be issued were defeated today in the house, when Represen tative Allen of Marion county moved the reconsideration of H. U. 161. in traduced by Dr. E. J. Anderson of Wasco and defeated at Wednesday"- session. Mr. Allen made two points against the present law. His first was that It takes away from the county clerks of Oregon great sums in marriage license Tees which go to adjacent states which do not require the medical certificate. The second was that the medical ex amination fee is so small that to physician can make any real test and make out a certificate that has any value. Mr. Schuebel declared the proposed repeal of the law an outrage and a slap in the face of deceucy. Mr. Mlchelbook asked him if he knew of a single case where a man could not have passed a strict medical test be ing unable to get a certificate. Mr. Schuebel replied that be as It may, the law Is there to protect those young women who insist that the man they marry must be straight and pure. Feb. J. A bill to abolish the office of road supervisor has been Introduced In the house by Representative Weeks but definite action ha not yet been taken on the bill. Mr. Week maintains that road Is a county and not a district proposition and believes that road money should be spent by the county court or a roadmaster with a consis tent policy of road development, which the whole county would bene fit. His bill follows: 'Section 1. The office of road su pervisor Is hereby abolished and sec tion 6314 ot Lord' Oregon law hereby repealed. "Section 2. ' "Section 3. In any application or petition for laying out, or altering or vacating county roads, or restoring monuments or straightening roads, any person having a freehold and residence within two miles of the pro posed road shall be a qualified signer, 'Section 4.
