Mckelson 2 00 (To be continued.) Heart to Heart Talks By CHARLES N, LURIC " SELF TRUST. In Boswcll's "Life of Johnson," that Inexhaustible storehouse of wisdom and interest concerning eighteenth cen tury Englaud nnd other 'lands and times we find It written thnt "Ausonl us thought that modesty forbade him to plead Inability for a task to which Cncsnr had Judged him equnl." Thnt Is, Ausonlus deferred to superi or knowledge about himself. When that higher Intelligence ordered him to attempt something be set about It, even though be doubted his ability to bring It to successful completion. To attempt It was the thing, with out regard to the possibility of failure. Many things have been done by men and women who knew in their heart of hearts thnt they could not succeed. They obeyed the higher voice and won. Cnesnr stands above most of us. urg ing us to "try." He has many shapes nnd disguises. Some And bis features In duty, some tn ambition, some tn desire for gnln. To the rarer, finer souls those who know that real success ties tn the fulfilling of the inner de sire, Caesnr Is the conscience which Impels to good work. Real modesty consists, as the old Ro man snld so wisely. In concealing from the world, even from oneself, the fears and misgivings which bar the way to trial. It Is not bonstfulness, but self confidence of the right sort which Impels toward essaying the tasks which one's Cnesnr sets for him. "Render unto Caesnr the things which are Caesnr's. nnd unto God the things which are God's." And when the things which are the Inward Caesnr's are also the things which the conscience approves as be ing God's, good, true work Is done. Be not afraid! For if any one tries something whtcb Is utterly beyond bis powers and falls, strength Is won by the attempt It ex ercises and develops the soul, as physi cal exercise brings out the latent pow er of the muscles. It Is trite of course, but true to say that failure, after honest trial. Is not a disgrace. Students of human nature And much encouragement In the fnct that the world has now and bns always bad a friendly smile Instead of condemnation for honest failure. Getting Even. Susie's grandmother bad been scold Ing ber. Susie felt Indignant, but had been taught never to "answer back." However, she got even. Taking ber kitten In her arms, she thus solilo quized: "Kitty. I wlsb one of ns was dead this minute. Not you, kitty nor me. kitty, but one of ns three In this room." Exchange.
