(Special) C&nby will have a new Jail as the con tract has already been let to Frank Dodge, a local contractor, who has al ready be?an the work. The new jail will be concrete 11 by 16 feet, contain ing four steel cells and will be equip ped with water. GIRLS FORM TEAM MEADOWBROO CANBY, Ore., Dec. 9. Miss Ruby Baker is very happy in the possession of a new piano. Mr. MacFeeters, of Forest Grove, spent several days in Wilsonville this week on business. A carload of onions was shipped on Wednesday by the association here. Prof. Smith, from the University of Oregon, lectured In the school house on Saturday evening, and despite the deluge of rain, a splendid audience greeted the speaker. His address is pronounced intensely interesting by all who attended. Miss Mary Brobst and Sherman Seely gave vocal solos which added much to the evening's pleasure, as we are always glad to hear thesa talented singers. Mr. and Mrs. Emmons have taken apartments In Portland for the winter, but will spend the week-end at Stone Gables. The Community Club will meet on Wednesday at the Batdorf hall. Mr. and Mrs. George Ross have moved to Mt. Tabor. Mr. and Mrs. Greene, of Portland, are occupying the Boyle cottage. Mr. and Mrs. Hodgklns, Mr. Nelson, Major and Mrs. Clarkson, Wilson Mil ler and wife, and Mr. and Mrs. Lang- don Spooner, Mr. and Mrs. Will Jen nings, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Spooner and Mrs. Ella Spooner on Thanksgiving day. An enthusiastic meeting was held at Batdorf's hall on the evening of Nov. 28, when the tax-payers of road dis trict No. 47 met for the purpose of levying ten mills for a special road tax. The road supervisor, O. if. Ho etbe called the meeting to order and B. Lee Paget was made chairman of the meeting, while Prof. Butler was elected secretary. The committee who were appointed the previous year gave a detailed re port of the work, which was read by Prof. Butler. , H. G. The Community Club held Its regu lar meeting on the first Wednesday of the month. Mr. Slnclalre, presiding, and gave us a new hope for street lights. A light will be placed at Hull Ave. and Jennings Ave. by the Club nnd maintained by subscription for a year to try them out. Each light will cost $15, including the automatic cut off. The probable cost of maintain ing them will be $6 a month per light A receptacle has been placed in the station by the Club for waste paper and every resident Is urged to cooper ate with the Club In putting all papers or other litter in this galvanized recep tacle and make our station what it should be. The Club's slogan for 1915 will be for new sidewalks and Hull Ave. will probably be the first street to be supplied with new walks. We understand we are to have a new station at Hull Ave., which will be quite a convenience for residents of that vicinity. Bessie Roberts entertained the Climbers on Friday evening of last requirements for a standard school as adopted by tho state board of educa tion. Robinson and little son have returned to their home after an eight weeks' stay In Portland. On Sunday evening, Dec. 20th, the Congregational Sunday school will give a White Offering, at this time a pro gram will be rendered and the children offering given to the needy ones. On Wednesday evening following, a Christmas tree and a class supper will be held at the Batdorf hall. The sup per will be served at 6 P. M. and the friends of the Sunday school workers are Invited to the tree and exercises which will follow. The Congregational Society has pur chased the chapel at this place, from the Evangelical Association. It will be enlarged and remodeled to meet the demands of the rapid increase of at tendance at the Congregational Sun day School. The property consists of the building and two lots. Lents has $75,000 in new buildings going up.
