While Hen ry Siegel, head of lnrge department stores In New York, Phicago and Bos ton, was testifying today in a riotous bankruptcy hearing In the the Feder al building, the grand Jury that has been Investigating the failure of the Slegel stores in New York and the savings bank returned three Indict menta against him and his partner, Frank E. Vogel. In the banking enter prise. Slegel and Vogel were taken to the criminal court building, where they were arraigned and later released on $25,000 bail each. Three hundred angry depositors who had been ejected from the bankruptcy hearing hung around the Federal building for Siegel in vain. At the time they were seeking to question him he and his banking partner were neiore judge Kosalsky pleading not guilty. One of the indictments charges Sie gel and vogel with grand larceny in that they made false statements to the Bank of Commerce in order to bor row $25,000. The other indictment al leges that the two bankers accepted deposits when they knew the bank of Henry Siegel ft Co. to be Insolvent. Siegel testified on the stand at the bankruptcy proceedings that he did not invest capital In the private bank that bore his name. Miss Jessie Mar tin Interrupted bis testimony and said that she had a right to represent the depositors at the bearing. She was urged to stop. When she refused she was led from the courtroom. Three hundred depositors who were standing around the corridors also were put out for shouting threats of violence against Siegel. Wash.. March 5. The war between the Federal league and organized baseball during the coming season will have nothing on the bat tle between the teams of the new lea gue being former in Southeastern Alaska, unless all present signs fail. There will be four teams In the new league, and Junean will be the head quarters. The teams will be backed by the multimlllion dollar mlnmg companies now operating in that sec tion. A league for the coming sum mer was decided upon at the close of the 1913 baseball season, and the -backers and men Interested are pre paring to place teams in the field for the season opening May 1.
