Ad mission that many of the planks In the Progressive platform are ot Dem ocratic origin, was made here today by Colonel Roosevelt, Progressive nominee for president When Roose velt's attention was called to William J Bryan's declaration that the Pro gressives stole all their good planks from Democracy, he said: "Of course we have stolen all ideas from the Democrats that were good- except those fit for inmates oi a iuu atlc asylum." rolonel Roosevelt proudly exhibit ed todiy a telegram from the Bremer ton (Washington) navy yaro. wuicn read: We join In congratulating you on your nomination. (Signed) "CREW OF THE OREGON.' In discussing the negro problem, Colonel Roosevelt said today: "As far as the nesro yutsiion is concerned, we got it started In the only right wsy. We came near break ing on ft, though, because so many did not understand and wanted to make it a national instead of a state issue. Lincoln regarded it as a state issue. Ten years hence, the people will see that we have correctly solv ed the problem. The white men of the south must aid the negro by pushing ahead the deserving colored man and driving the venal negro out of politics." Dr. Withycombe has got out a very interesting as well as instructive booklet explaining the various depart ments and workings of the Oregon Agricultural College. This publica tion is in a class of its own as is the college itself, and any reasonable minded person would, after thor oughly understanding the great work this college is doing, do everything within his power to the end that noth ing be put in the way of advance ment FORMMMY GET OLD JOB BACK LONDON. Aug. 8. Near-Eastern affairs are reaching a crisis, accord ing to reports from Constantinople, which say that the committees of Un ions and Progressive parties have resolved to summon the dissolved Chamber of Deputies to reassemble at Adrianople, to which the leaders have already gone. The government has proclaimed martial law at Salon iki, Alrianople and Smyrna The Daily Chronicle's correspond ent who recently was in Constantin ople, considers civil war Is Inevitable and that it is not unlikely that the committee's rival parliament will form a cabinet, and recall and pro claim the deposed Abdul Hamid as Sultan. Added to the universal trou bles are difficulties with Montenegro and Bulgaria. A Vienna dispatch says that after the Ketscbana massacre the Turkish Jroops proceeded to Sermenena, maa sacreeing the people of two Bulgar ian villages on the way. The fighting at Sermenena lasted five hours, and the Bulgarians were defeated. They fled and the Turks then butchered the aged men, women and children who were left behind and set fire to the town, many perish ing in the flames. This report has not been confirmed. DR.
