THE REXALL STORE. PORTLAND TAX ROLL TO BE $290,000,000 PORTLAND, Aug. 8. This city will have an assessed vuluation of proper ty of approximately $290,000,000 when County Assessor Sigler completes his assessments for this year, according to conorvutlve estimates. This tneuns that tho total increase In valuation of the assessment this year over thut of last will approximate $15,000,000. This will yield additional taxes of apprlxl mately $330,000. County Assessor Sigler has lncreused the assessed val uation of practically all the real prop erty from the center line of the blocks between Fourth and Fifth streets went through the new uptown shopping dis tricts and frora Burnslde street south to Harrison. Upper Alder street Is the pivotal point fro,u which the Increase Is made. On this thoroughfare the In crease Is 10 per cent from Fifth street west to Its Intersection of Washing ton street. On all other parallel streets from Burnslde to Harrison the Increases are gradually lessened to about 2 per cent. The reason as signed for levying tho great em In crease on the real emme on Alder street Is due to the rapid strides this thoroughfare has made as business district. As an example of the increase In the assessed vnluation, the quarter- j block occupied by the Yeon building lust year It has been Increased to I $260,000. The quarter-block directly i west across Fifth street, on which tho t Llpman & Wolfe department store is being erected, last year was assessed for $255,000, while this year it has been assessed for $270,000. or an in crease nf $15,000. The southeast cor ner of Sixth and Alder, occupied by Meier & Frank, last year was assess ed for $230,000, while this year It has been Increased to $250,000. Tho Sell ing block has been Increased from $258,000 to $270,000. IJke Increases have been made In other property in this vicinity. The quarter block at the southeast corner of Fourteenth and Alder last year was assessed for $36,000, while this year It Is aHHcssed for $12,000. The quartet block on tho southwest corner of Seventeenth and Alder has been Increased from $33,000 to $36,000. The Increases on upper Washing ton, Morrison and Yamhill are slight ly less. The Increase on Washington street, however, reaches as far west as Twenty-third street. A considera ble advance has been made on the East Side, particularly In Central East Portland. The Increase's, however, are not so heavy as on the West Side. In residence districts where many im provements have been made during the past year, the assessed vuluation has been raised slightly. "I am of the opinion that the total Increases on real property over the entire city will approximate about 5 per cent more than last year," said County Assessor Sigler 'today. "This will amount to Increase In round figures of about $15,000,000." There will also be Increases In the personal roll and In improvements, which have been taken into consid eration in the estimate of the In creases.
