Boyer, the popular leader of the Apollo Club and several other musical organizations of Portland, has been en gaged to train the Oregon City singers for the great assembly. Professor Boyer requests the presence of every singer in Oregon City at his first re hearsal at the M. E. Church next Wednesday evening, June 3, when be hopes to outline his plan of musical work for the assembly. He will have music there and begin with practice at the start. Hubbard, superintendent of the Clacka mas hatchery, has recently liberated 50,000 young salmon, hatched last year, which have been kept and fed at the hatchery as long as possible, in order that they might be better able to take care of themselves when liberated. At the suggestion of Fish and Game Pro tector McGuire, 5000 of the fish were marked by clipping the small under-fin, so that; when captured, it can be learned hoar old the fish are when they return to the river to spawn. Miss June Wade, who has been at tending Stanford University, returned Monday and is the guest of her Miss Amy Johnson. aunt, E. The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs Cook, who reside on- Fourteenth and Washington streets, died Saturday aud was buried Monday afternoon Mrs. J. J. Cooke, Mrs. J. C. Bradley, Messrs. Thos. F. Ryan. W. A. Hedges and H. E. Sfiaight attended the grand lodge of Odd Fellows at Astoria last week. Material is being hauled for a new wall and basement utder the West Side public school. This will be used as a play-room for the pupils during bad weather. ' John Bean and family will vacate the Taylor residence on 11th street this week and will occupy the residen ce of H. C.i, Stevens, opposite the Oregon Citibank. J. W. Lawrence and M. E. Buin on Tuesday given contracts for publishing the daily official paper during the Cha tauqua Assembly at Gladstone, July 7th to 17th. . Warren O. Dauchy of Gladstone died on Sunday and the funeral service were held on Tuesday, Rev. M. L. Rugg of ficiating. He was 21 years, 4 months and 27 davs old. , i Mrs. McAdams is lying very ill at her residence. Miss Mabelle Wiggins has taken charge of her room at the East- Khnm school, until she is able to attend to her dn;ies again. II. J. Martin and wife .left, for Port land Saturday, where- Mr. Mi. tin has accepted a position with a drug firm. Mr. Martin was formerly clerk in G .' A. Harding's drug store. The Misses Florence Morey, Helen Eastham and Vera Pillsbury will leave by steamer for California Monday. Miss Morey and Eastham will visit in San Francisco and Miss Pillsbury will visit Stockton. J. S. Vandeiburg did not speak at Pope's hall on Saturday evening and a Mr. Ward of Portland addressed a small audience instead. Mr. Vanderburg was called home by the serious illness o his mother. Jfoblitt's stable will run a back and a carriage between Oregon City and the cemetery on Decoration day for the ac commodation of those who wish to go and not walk out in the hot sun. Prices reasonable. Last Sunday some eight fishermen. from the island below the falls, caught fully 200 pounds of chinook salmon, weighing from 1't to 12 pounds each. Among those who, made tre largest catches were Messrs. L.T. Barin, F. M. Longshore and O. II. Bernard. Memorial services were held in Pres. byterian church on Sunday morning. Rev. A. J. Montgomery preached an ex cellent sermon. The G. A. R., Co. F and firemen marched in a body with the drum corps tothechurch. The church did not hold a third of the people that wished to attend. The fun?rtl services were held at the Episcopal church here on Wehnesday, Rev. Isaac Dawson offici ating. Mr. Johnson was born in Eng land and had resided on his Clackamas farm for more than 30 years. He leaves a widow and nine children . Superintendent W. II. Howell last week with 20 men at a cost of but $120 put in 1300 feet of 6-Inch water main, from the stand pipe to connect with the new reservoir opposite Grace's store at Elyville. The overflow waste pipes are being laid this week. Several hydrants will be set there for fire protection. Smyth & Howard, the contractors fcr the excavation of reservoir, commenced work on Wednesday and will employe Oregon City teams and labor, married men giyeu preference. A Household reasure. D. W.
