The member ot the AHMociHtion who have had the manage ment of ils aifnir during the past twelve month may well feel elated that they can present so favorable a report to the other member. It is only nineteen months since the Association commenc ed business and the total income has been from ronMontsuf Oregon City. The loans aggregate 11330, mostly in small sums, no one exceeding $500, and has been the means to erect nine new resi dences in and around Oregon City. The total shares in force 295, have been only included in this statement, 230 in first series and 03 in second series. Since the statement was made, a third series has been Issued with 130 abates. This makes 425, the totil millibar of thares in force out of the origin al u ipitat stock of $-50,000. At last annual meeting the stockholders direct 1 Hie b t irj of dir ectors to take step4 to increa4 tits cap ital to 1000 share or $O0,0JJ,and the rapid manner that shires i.ave been taken the last twm mths predicts that at the next annual mnetliig the stock holders will And it necessary to still further increase the capital stock. It is highly gratifying to be abbt to see so good results from a very small beginning The aim ol the association i mutual eli help. Those th it c-i'i ive month ly one or inore dollars put their saving in a common Mud and the aggregate each uionih in tke 4 lite a suu a i thai those members who desire to build a home can have their loam from this oinmon fund at a reasonable r ite of inter t without exhorbitant charges lor prociir. ingsums. It also tends to mikn the members thrifty. The monthly call on them for a small deposit makes them more economical and the tn inev thus paid in the asiociutiou ia constantly in creasing and will in the end mike quite a respectable sum laid aside for a ram y day. These payments on account of their smallnesH, are hardly felt by the depositor and would ui'ist likely, if not used in Ihls manner, bo frittered :iw iy in llaeless expenditures. The young men working in mill, fau tories and elsewhere should by all means take one or more snare in this asa-tcia tion and thereby accustom tliminwlvd to a systematic and periodical saviug of a small sum each month. Nothing i better to t-irm hara:ter mid hahll of thrift a they grow older, and the youug man or woman who neglect to d will must likely never be pieed of anything au l forever rein tin the hired man of someone else. We are giving place to some articles from a special c nitributer, signing him self "Oreo." His last subject was ' popliical charcateriatics" this week "Usual Party Tastics, Aderse to Purifying Motives" and next he promises ns "Low Ebb of Patriotism." We hope that these editorials will be read with interest, as they will embody truth which should he considered stronger than Action and more patent than blasts from political aspirants. We cannot predict the ultimate finish of his writings, but are of the opinion that much can be learned from reading the article from week to week. By the use of IIih cathode rays, people will be ti 1I e to delect good from bad eggs in (net they will enable a mun to count hi chicken hefure they are hatched . U. A. Harding, Druggist, desires lis to publish the following extract from a letter of Chas. M. Uutfield, Keedly, Fresno Co., Cal., as ho handles the remedy referred to and wauls his cus tomers to know what a splendid medicine it i: "ll is Willi pleasure I tell vou by one day's use of Chamberlain's Cough rem edy 1 was relieved of a very severe cold. My head was completely stopped up and I could i nt sleep at niybt. I can recommend thi remedy," A cold nearly always starts in the head and afterwards extends to the throat and i lings. A great many people are influenced by what other do, and that is one of the reason why so many take Simmon Liver Regulator. I wa told of Simmons Liver Regula tor, by a friend in Arkansas, and I didn't need to take much ol it before I was entirely relieved." Byron Bradley, Tallahassee, Fla. We think we are safe in assorting that more "I. W. HARPER" whiskey is sold than any other whiskey made in Ken tucky. Uiaal Party Taolloi Advern t Purify. Ing Motives. It Is one thing to be morely a repre sentative party with all the political t n.'tion which are apparent at tho res ent time, and another thing to be a parly of purity, moved and actuated by a spirit of patriotism, with the fullest determination to turn away all the cor rupting influences of time, while brist ling with vital importance and battling auainst the political parasites that would want lo sink the honest impulses of the truly American people, with naught but seltiah interests at stake, to gratify individual wants and desires. A pat ty to long suci a d with so many disturbing elements, must give strength to their organization by crowding to the front men of ability, honesty, morality, justice, humanity and trusty fellowship, with a power in them to govern the peo pie in conformity with municipal, state and national law( allowing that states' men like magnanimity, which has made some of the best men so famous in times past. The shivering imagina tion of a lost body and soul, weighed down by corrupting influences, being stung by evil temptations, must brace up with more commendable character- istcia that all political filibustering may have a more solid tooting on which to build, not only our hopes and wishes, but our fortunt s and cur fjvors. The perpetuation of tbia government does not therefore hang upon the thread of ignorance, misplaced confidence or the tanglicg snare of selfishness, but ten dons of steel tempered to lit the masses. Every political servant or aspirant needs to show hia strength by his abil ity and well known honesty, must act in harmony with American ideas, be consistant in principle, sound in meas ures, ennobling, with a purifying pros idence, careful and straight in con duct, practical in proposition? and de claratious enunciated and made plain lor the country's good. How many political servants are there at the present time that can pass muster under the ban of the foregoing propo sition? The public is only too ready to answer the question, as they see the light of (unner years of prosperity grow ing dun over their principalities and giadually lading from the loss of the more buoyant old time spirit of seventy six. Thistles and tears have crept in from other nations tf the earth, until the fruitfulness of colonial patriotism and independence, ia choked and hampered by the foulest of means, aud while the agitation is brisk for political reform, the double-headed monsters of 'corruption seek to obstruct the way tor a renewal o peace and prosperity. The European dog snarls at the door of legislation, be hind the master of British g,lld, unti; the surging throng of mis placed confidence, aeeking ready re lief, march away with narrow minded patriotism, operating with fault ami well puffed siguificence- And -whenever there is a cry lor reform, the roost ers that crow in the morning and oc casionally open their expanding throats at dead of midnight, with an un weary fit of professed usefulness, sound their own praises to lead the van of the de pressed and complaing humanity. There is so much to thii.k of and so it tie being done of a commendable nature, that I tie laboring classes pour forth their complain la without liio assurance that our most renowned statesmen have hitherto established a code of justice and i tiles of action for the prosperity and guidance of the entire cjm.u.in weallli While opulence of scheming operators t beds some ray of light upon the busy world, the bony hands ol the oppressed become cold for want of ex etcise with home-like wants in immi nent peiil, causing new parties to spring into life with proteased honesty sifting their strength and developing new blood from the rank and tile of descend ants ot the Puritan fathers, and in their watchfulness, try to seek some remedy, yet amidst all their fruitful endeavors elfish ness is bound to lurk in to warp brotherly love aud affection. The weakness of human nature ia therefore apparent in new parties aa well as old unless their issuee are purely natural and their purposes bold in virtue. Men are being tried and found want ing, who would willing tear Old Glory into threads, stamping its folds into the earth to improve and develop the tac tions of men of foreign birth, who have been received and granted privilege equally with the American born. Amer ica baa been the receptacle of men from every' corner of the earth, many of whom tread the thoroughfares of a noble country, wander up and down the streeeta of our large cities, more anxious to throttle the industries of our beloved country and undermind the more worthy laborers, than to be Im bued with American principles of honor, some of whom are illiterate, can neither read nor write their own language, much less to learn and understand the ways and intelligence ol the American people. To favor and hold np this un learned and unsvmpathizing class i to sap I he life blood from the American born; ye politicians will 'make a voter out of a jack-kuife to win the race.
