A meeting of the members of the Democratic County Central Committee of Clackamas county, will be held in Oregon City, Ore gon, at the rooms of Fountain Hose Company No. 1, on Satur day, February 29th, at 2 o'clock p. m. All members of the com mittee are urged to be present. S. R". Green, Chairman. V. R. Hyde, Secretary. A FULL TICKET. A meeting of some of the prominent democrat of thin city was held in Wil lamette ImiliJInu on Monday evening when it was decided to put a full ticket in the field to be voted by the demo crats In June. Tlecall for a comity central committee meeting to be held on Saturday of this week appears at head of this column. All committeemen should be present. The democratic county convention will be held on April 4th to nominate officers and elect iloleirates to the state convei tion In Portland on April 7th. A Number of hop growers in this and other counties are ploughing up their hop vines, but we think as does the Salem Statesman that"groers who are ploughing up their yards are making a mistake. As we have said so many times before, the Willamette valley can crow hops cheaper than can England or New York. The prices will not re, main below the cost of production for long. The sections of the world not so favorably conditioned as our valley will be obliged logo out of the buxineia. Then there will b a regular annual profit for our growers. The vinos will last 150 years. We say, leave them in the ground, and keep the yards healthy. It will pay. There will be numerous years when the hop growers will be con sidered the most fortunate of our farm ers. If it will not piy to pick whon the time comes in nnv given year, then use the crop for fertilizer TO SUBSCRIBERS. The publisher of the Courier would be pleased to have country subscribers settle theii' subscription accounts with produce of any kind. At present we are in need of several bushels of wheat (for our chickens), a few rolls of butter, some potatoes, applet, meat, etc., and a large amount nf silver and gold to pay our bills, riease pay up. We will do our part by accepting anything the farmer raises at the highest market price. PLE LOCAL SUMMARY. by Amoxu the iiwtit nuel of hopes have been thoKe w hich science has held out to consumptives. Fr"in time to time cures have been announced, only to prove failures. That dri-ml consumption can be cured, wo have no doubt ; and that its cure till ultimately be discovered is equally certain. Let us hope that the well-known physical!, Dr. Cyrus Kdson, of New York, has already discovered it, ns he and other medical men believe that he hai. His remedy is a purified prep aration of carbolic acid, which, hyper dermically injected into the blood, des troys, it is claimed, not only the germs of consumption, but of many other dis eases. If "aseptolin" will do what Dr. Kdson believes it will do, it is a discov ery whose importance has never been exceeded la all the history of m edical science. Hftif t loan on good security A . 8. An exchange says : Don't ink an editor fo suppress on item of news ; some other paper will gel it anyway. The next day something will happen to your neighbor and il he aska to have it sup pressed you will bo the fir tone to jump on the editor lor not "darioK to say that his soul was his own." Take your medicine when the news happens to fall your way, for really you have no more claim on the paper than your neighbor. Nearly every day the editor is called on lor roasts and several other kinds of cookery for the benefit of this and that ens, and yet those who request this would no more think of writing what thoy want the editor to write and as sume tbe responsibility for it than they would attempt to fly. "Trk democratic free-silver combine," says a republican organ, "has the con trol of the United States senate, not the republicans. Otherwise there would be no free-coinage bills passed." This is certainly a chipper aod cherry lie, when everybody knows that the republican-populist combination has organ ised tbe senate and has control of its I'omraitteea and its offices.
